On today's Facebook stream, Your's Truly got to show off the new content added to Warhammer: Vermintide 2 in the Winds of Magic expansion. We played through the new level, "Dark Omens", and tried out Weaves, the new seasonal-progression game mode in Vermintide.

Playing as Huntsman Kruber, I demonstrated the powerful combo of the 2-handed hammer and repeater handgun for mowing down mobs at range and bashing them away with the hammer once surrounded. His new melee weapon, the sword+mace, is a great combo for quick slicing attacks and staggering blunt force, excelling at mobility and dancing around the edge of the mob. Today though, the trusty hammer was all we need to beat back to savage beastmen.

Speaking of beastmen, "Dark Omens" is a great stage to show off their savage ferocity. The Bannermen in particular can quickly overwhelm the team, as the standard they drop boosts the attack and defense of all surrounding enemies. On stream we discovered that killing the Bannermen (by knocking them off a cliff) doesn't remove the standard, they actually need to be destroyed with a melee weapon.

My #1 tip from the stream was actually a setting that all new players should definitely adjust: the default FOV for the game is set to 65, but we recommend bumping that up to at least 80 if not more. On stream today I played at 90 and found it gave me a much better view of the battlefield and helped protect me from getting surrounded. Granted, the game will take on a slight fish-eye effect at this field of view, but once you get used to it, increasing FOV can give you a huge advantage against the monsters.

Moving on to Weaves, we discovered just how difficult solo'ing Weaves can be, even on the 1st level! This is because any crowd control effects will immediately end your run as there is no one around to rescue you (Weaves do not let you bring AI teammates along like in regular levels). We learned this lesson the hard way unfortunately, when the boss monster yeeted me off the ledge, prematurely ending the run.

I've been having a great time playing Winds of Magic with friends. The Weaves offer a nice option when you don't have the time for a full level run and the separate progression track has kept me in the game because it offers just enough variety that it feels like there's always more to do.

Wind of Magic is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and Steam. You can check out my stream every week on TheGamer's Facebook page Thursdays at 1pm PST.
