Skydance Interactive and Skybound Entertainment revealed a new trailer for The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners today. The footage teases more of the story, a war of survivor factions set in flooded New Orleans. More importantly, it shows how much choice plays into your time in the post-walker world. You'll kill zombies, sure, but you get options in how you kill them. Will you gun them down from a safe distance? Or will you craft a sharp object from a nearby street sign, grab a walker's head, and plunge your new dagger right into their skull? Oh, and there's also a story.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is a virtual reality game set in the familiar world of tough moral choices. As the new trailer reminds us, the setting of New Orleans is removed from that of the show or the Telltale games. You play as a stranger who comes in the middle of a conflict between the ruling faction and their opposition. How you choose to handle the factions, and the environment at large, will decide how the story goes.

As you can see, the trailer likes to ask who you are. You'll answer that question with more than story choices. You can explore sections of the city in free roam, then return to your base camp to craft all manner of things. You can make fresh food that's healthier than the ramen you find lying around. You can make medicine to buff yourself. And, of course, you can craft makeshift weapons. Weapons you can use to sneak up on walkers one-by-one or mow them down Rambo-style.

A word of caution from someone who's played a demo, though. Don't try to mow the walkers down Rambo-style. The game is very good at capturing the brutality of The Walking Dead. You can score some sick kill animations on walkers, but it's also very easy to be swarmed by them. Playing it safe is often the better option, both to converse resources and stay alive.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners looks like it will skillfully walk that line of being faithful to the source material while also adapting it for virtual reality. Thankfully, it's not long until it launches on January 23, 2020.
