Waypoint (the gaming arm of Vice) recently announced it’ll be hosting the third annual Save Point gaming marathon event from September 16 - 20, 2020. This year’s event will be to support The National Bail Out Collective, and will stream live on Waypoint's Twitch channel.

Waypoint on-air streamers will be joined by other Vice staff and community gamers from Motherboard (the tech arm of Vice), and by others who have a “shared goal of building a more inclusive and just society.” The Save Point fall event has become something of a tradition at Waypoint, with previous events supporting the Florence Immigrant & Refugee Rights Project and Trans Lifeline.

With the current ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Waypoint team is adjusting this years’ Save Point event by hosting it solely online via the Waypoint Twitch channel, in order to keep everyone at home (as we all should be) and a proper safe distance apart.

Since it’s online this year, the team has made an extra adjustment to the stream schedule to focus the stream uptime to mainly the daylight hours, cutting out the graveyard shift hours. Save Point will officially kick off at noon Eastern on Wednesday, September 16, and run until 10 p.m. EDT, then continue daily from 8 a.m. EDT to 10 p.m. EDT until Sunday, September 20.

This years’ Save Point will be to benefit The National Bail Out Collective, “a Black-led and Black-centered collective of abolitionist organizers, lawyers and activists building a community-based movement to support our folks and end systems of pretrial detention and ultimately mass incarceration.”

The NBOC coordinates the Mama’s Day Bail Outs program that helps to ensure Black Mamas and caregivers “spend Mother’s Day with their families where they belong”. The group also helps provide fellowship, employment opportunities, and ongoing resources, reform efforts, and support for individuals and communities across the country.

In case you’ve never viewed the previous Save Point gaming marathons, you can click over to the Waypoint YouTube channel where they have the Save Point 2018 and Save Point 2019 streams in handy playlists ready for viewing. The Wavepoint team also states that the schedule and overall streaming will be fluid for this year due to our current circumstances. You can track the Waypoint Twitter channel for updates.
