Nickelodeon live-action shows provide great entertainment just like the cartoons. They are smart, creative, funny, and even have some innuendos that adults can enjoy once in a while. Most of us usually remember the actors more than voice actors on Nickelodeon because we get to see them physically. Shows like All That, The Amanda Show, Drake and Josh, and iCarly proved that they can offer laughs while having great actors, writing staff, and an amazing crew to work behind the scenes.

Even though the shows look a lot of fun, everything that seems innocent around them always has a dark side. Whether it tends to be drama from offscreen or context clues from the show itself, not everything about the Nickelodeon live-action shows are seemingly fun and bright. Depending on how dark the shows can get, it depends on the situation, like what-ifs or what happened to the actors after the show ended.

Not everyone is perfect, while some interesting facts that revolve around the show can be too much for what is aimed mostly at kids. It is quite fun to know some of these facts since it can blow our minds of how time has changed, but at the same time, look back on the shows we grew up with. Looking back at these shows, they have more depth than we thought they would, especially when it has been years since the show first aired.

Here are twenty-five dark secrets you did not know about Nickelodeon live-action shows!

25 You Can't Do That Or We Won't Show It!

via: mentalfloss.com

You Can’t Do That on Television! is an oldie but a classic show on Nickelodeon regardless. It is a sketch comedy that more than likely inspired All That! and The Amanda Show. A famous singer by the name of Alanis Morissette even made an appearance on the show! This show is funny, but there were some episodes that were banned, at least in America.

There is an episode called “Adoption” and the reason for that ban is because America was worried that adopted kids would be offended or upset from the sketches that were shown. Another episode titled “Divorce” was banned too but in Canada. However, it eventually came back on the air. Sometimes some jokes can be a bit too much, even for the sake of comedy.

24 Did Josh Just Kiss That Person?

via: YouTube.com (ruinedchildhood)

Drake and Josh is one of the funniest sitcoms on Nickelodeon and is easily one of Dan Schneider’s best shows he has created. Even after the show ended, people still talk about the show and even hope for a reunion. This interesting fact is something that could have been considered risky.

Josh may look like he kissed a woman after telling her he won a contest, and that is true, but she had a rather… deep voice. The actress is possibly a transgender woman, but thankfully there was no harm done in regards to that. The scene was quick, funny, and effective. Poor Josh though, but it was a good thing that he was more disturbed by the fact that he suddenly had gum in his mouth.

23 Dude Looks Like A Lady!

via: YouTube.com (TheThings)

Sam Puckett from iCarly is known to be a tough chick who can be very aggressive, especially towards the tech producer and friend of the iCarly gang Freddie Benson. She teases him a lot and at one point started to have feelings for him, which is honestly the cutest part of her character development! From this picture, she is very strong, but did you know…

That is actually a man picking up Freddie.

You read that correctly. Apparently, a stunt double was hired in order for “Sam” to pick up Freddie in the episode “iFind Lewbert’s Lost Love.” It was very funny to just watch Sam pick up Freddie and watch his surprised reaction to it happening. The actress Jennette McCurdy might have the talent to play Sam, but not the strength.

22 Kids Won't Get That Reference... Hopefully

via: YouTube.com (Obsev Entertainment), funnyjunk.com

When it comes to adult jokes and innuendos, they can range from subtle to obvious. If you watch a show created by Dan Schneider, then you know that there are many jokes that can be seen as adult and risqué. Zoey 101 is one of those shows, which consists of Britney Spears’ younger sister Jamie Lynn Spears, who plays the titular character. When it comes to some references made, this one is a shocker.

Logan’s shirt says, “I spent one night in Paris.”

It is a reference to a tape that Paris Hilton was involved in. Guys that are Logan’s age would probably watch something like that if they manage to watch it without their web browser looked at. This reference was a complete shock to people that get it, and it is amazing that it managed to stay in the cut of the episode it appeared in.

21 Big Time Decision

via: fanpop.com

Big Time Rush was an interesting sitcom, focusing on four teenage boys who played hockey from Minnesota. One of them went to audition to be a part of Rocque Records and was denied until Kendall started singing. The head of Rocque Records, Gustavo, was interested in him and wanted him to record demos. Since Kendall is the main lead, it is guaranteed he would do it just as long as his friends come with him. Before Big Time Rush became a thing, however…

Did you know that Kendall was not originally the leader?

Curt Hansen was originally going to be one of the members of Big Time Rush, but James, Logan, and Carlos believed that he did not share the same level of chemistry that they have with Kendall. Because of that, Kendall became a permanent member of Big Time Rush.

20 Different Dad, Different Impact

via: twitter.com

Drake and Josh is easily one of the greatest sitcoms in Nickelodeon’s time in the 2000s. Coming from The Amanda Show, Drake Bell and Josh Peck became an iconic duo due to their amazing chemistry and amazing situations their characters get into in each episode. Miranda Cosgrove was a scene stealer and fellow co-star of The Amanda Show Nancy Sullivan brought great entertainment.

The father, Jonathan Goldstein was not the original in the pilot.

An unaired pilot actually existed but was not talked about for a while. Dan Schneider tweeted a picture of a different man playing Walter and Drake having a different hairstyle. In a way, we are glad that Jonathan Goldstein is the memorable father and weatherman because the jokes that revolve around him were hilarious.

19 Nostalgic, But Confusing

via: YouTube.com (DanWarp)

The date of the Zoey 101 episode “Time Capsule” was released on September 18th, 2005. Ten years later, a special on YouTube released on Dan Schneider’s official YouTube account titled, "What Did Zoey Say?" When fans saw this, they absolutely freaked out. It acted as a reunion for Michael Barrett and Chase Matthews. The latter was about to propose to a different woman that was not Zoey, and from his words, he could never get her out of his head.

When Michael appeared, he gave the news to Chase that Zoey might be his soulmate. It was awesome and nostalgic, but that left so many questions. What happened between Zoey and Chase after PCA? Why did they break up when they were pretty much canon? Is this all part of Dan Schneider’s plan? And more importantly, will there be a sequel to this special clip?

18 Quite The Sad Thing

via: glambergirlblog.com

When you think of All That!, you think of a kids version of Saturday Night Live, but just as creative and funny. In fact, many of the actors that appeared in All That! end up being regulars in the sketch comedy series like Kenan Thompson. However, we are actually going to talk about Angelique Bates. She only appeared in two seasons, but she was certainly talented.

Unfortunately, she has gone through some troubled times.

Her mother was physically, emotionally, and mentally attacked by her mother during her time in All That! She was only twelve when it happened, and what was worse is that no one on set did a thing to help her. However, she did what she had to so and stood up for herself. Right now, she is stronger and beautiful more than ever.

17 More Like Careless

via: YouTube.com (Ryan Puckette)

The Amanda Show sketches range from memorable to downright hilarious. “Judge Trudy” became a recognizable character while acting as a parody of Judge Judy. “The Girls’ Room” is cliché to the point where it is actually funny, and “Totally Kyle” is just… totally Kyle. And then there is a sketch called “The Lucklesses.” By the name of that, it is about a family who just has terrible luck. It is funny, but one episode that had this sketch had to be off the air.

Why exactly? Because the family got hit by an asteroid and it pretty much destroyed their home. Amazingly, they survived, despite their luck. It was reminiscent of the date 9/11 and it would have been bad if the episode was still on the air after that tragedy happened. What are the odds of that?

16 Someone's Brother Is Crazy

via: makgriggs.tumblr.com

Shows that feature unseen characters can be perhaps the most interesting. There is Frasier, where Niles’ ex-wife was mentioned but never shown. Victorious also has a character mentioned plenty of times, but never appeared onscreen. That would have to be Cat Valentine’s older brother. It acts as a running gag whenever Cat mentions her brother doing weird things.

However, there is more to that than weird things…

Cat has mentioned that her brother would do things like going to the bathroom on their lawn, biting her foot, and tried to fill their pool with garbage. In the second-to-last episode, Cat tells Jade and Robbie that her parents and brother moved to Idaho in order for the latter to be institutionalized. It is possible that he is either mentally ill or deranged. He has done much worse too…

15 Do You Fear Lawsuits?

via: parade.com

Are You Afraid of the Dark? is like Goosebumps, but instead of actually living in the story, the main characters are gathered around telling campfire stories. It is the perfect show to watch at night or even binge watch during the month of Halloween. Want to know something scarier?

Even though the crew had sets to create the campfire scenes, but they took it too far and filmed some scenes in actual graveyards! However, the team behind the show managed to be smart enough about not wanting to risk lawsuits of names from the gravestones, so they created fake ones to help set the mood.

To think that they almost did that is probably scarier than the stories in the show! It was a close call.

14 It's Not Butter?

via: icarly.wikia.com, samandcat.wikia.com

We all know Sam Puckett is a strong girl who can stand on her own, but sometimes, she needs the help of her butter sock. Ever since its debut, it has become a running gag for Sam to use it as a weapon whenever her friends are in danger or in self-defense. At times it is funny or even epic. Even though the butter sock has been reliable, it is time to know the truth.

There is no butter in there. In reality, it would have just melted and stained the sock pretty badly. Instead, the “butter” sock is filled with batteries, and then it would be covered by Styrofoam and duct tape. Ouch, Freddie might have gotten hit by that a few times. That is why you do not mess with Sam.

13 Bad Boys

via: zimbio.com, huffingtonpost.com

Everything seemed fine and dandy after Zoey 101 ended, except for a controversial subject that will appear later on this list. Chase Matthew’s roommates were certainly memorable. Michael Barrett was very funny and has been best friends with Chase since the sixth grade. Logan Reese was a rich boy and is more egotistical than spoiled.

However, the two actors Christopher Massey and Matthew Underwood got into some trouble years after the show ended. Christopher was arrested for allegedly hurting his girlfriend at the time. Matthew possessed some stuff that PSAs shoved into our brains by saying no to it. It is crazy and very sad to hear the actors that portray our favorite actors get into legal trouble. Maybe along the way, these two will be able to walk away from their past mistakes.

12 Long Day On Set

via: floridamemory.com

Nickelodeon in the 90's were just so fun. Game shows like Legends of the Hidden Temple and Double Dare were memorable and entertaining! Game shows seem to look like they last for the time frame of thirty minutes. Well, if only that were the case because the whole process of producing, directing, and performing in a game show takes a lot of effort and time. It even looks fun with whatever the contestants have to do, but there is a secret that even they have to go through.

Being on set can last up to at most fifteen hours.

Crazy, right? It can take up most of the day for kids to even fully grasp the length of working on an episode. It is grueling for the contestants to go through something that is supposed to be fun and not tiring. Be sure to bring some coffee or energy bars!

11 Difficult On Purpose?

via: digitaltrends.com

Legends of the Hidden Temple was a unique take on the game show genre. The physical challenges were fun to watch, learning about history’s greatest figures was educational and interesting, and the consolation prizes were so cool back in the day! The host Kirk Frogg was a great one and Olmec voiced by Dee Bradley Baker was iconic. Even with these great things about the game show, something does seem off.

The Temple Run was insanely difficult. There are some kids that have passed it, but it feels like it was intentionally difficult so that no one can make it through. Even Kirk had trouble going through it, and he is an adult! What is the point of a game show if the contestants are destined to lose?

10 Where's The Mother?

via: icarly.wikia.com

When it comes to Nickelodeon sitcoms, iCarly is regarded as one of the best, and the colorful cast of character really help make the show great. Carly is prissy, but she can be sassy and have her limits. Sam is tough and a tomboy, but has her sensitive moments. Freddie developed from a nerd who has a crush on Carly to become a reliable and cool guy. Spencer is wacky and hilarious and expresses his creativity in his art.

Since Carly and Spencer live in an apartment complex while their dad is in the military, that leaves one question: Where is their mother? Some fans speculate that she passed away, while some think that she and their father are divorced. Since if anything were to happen to Spencer, then his and Carly’s grandfather would have to be the parental guardian. Perhaps she cut ties with the Shay family…

9 Unexpected Plans

via: eonline.com

Zoey 101 might be seen as a pretentious and annoying show, but it is actually quite sweet and depicts high school life very well. Some even think that Zoey is considered a Mary-Sue, but she has gone through some issues even she cannot handle. Speaking of Zoey, it is an interesting fact to know that Britney Spears’ younger sister is the star of the show. What a way to make the Spears name more famous!

After the show ended, Jamie Lynn Spears became pregnant.

Fans believed that the show was cancelled because of this and it is actually not true. The show wrapped up a few months before Jamie got pregnant. Other than that, she was still a teenager at the time, and teenage pregnancy was still an issue at that time. In the end, Jamie has become a great mother and even started a music career!

8 Rumors That Went Too Far

via: YouTube.com (ClevverNews)

When Victorious got cancelled and Sam and Cat started airing, people were speculating on two certain cast members. Ariana Grande was becoming very popular at the time the show was cancelled, and people had the nerve to make up rumors about her and the main lead Victoria Justice.

There were rumors of a feud between her and Ariana.

Victoria Justice appeared on the Meredith Vieira Show and denied all rumors. It was because of an article published on Seventeen, they wrote that Ariana was being bullied and Victoria was one of those people. Writers like them only want to cause drama and get views, and it is wrong to do that instead of writing an honest article. What matters is that Victoria and Ariana are great friends!

7 Probably A Better Spin-Off

via: nick.com

After iCarly ended, Dan Schneider had many ideas of a spin-off for one of the characters. We all know that Sam and Cat made the cut, but did you know that Gibby was going to have his own spin-off? It would have just been titled Gibby and it would take place after the events of iCarly. In this spin-off, Gibby would work at a recreational center and be a mentor to four troubled middle school students.

Since Gibby is perhaps the most strange but compelling character on the show, it would have been a great spin-off. It probably would have been better than Sam and Cat, to be honest. Unfortunately, Nickelodeon did not greenlight it, so the pilot was not picked up and it eventually resulted in the show being cancelled.

6 Moms Will Get A Kick Out Of This

via: icarly.wikia.com

Now that we are done talking about Gibby, let us talk about his younger brother Guppy. Like his brother, he is just as strange and random, but he does not call out his name every time. Instead, he tells everyone “Happy birthday” instead. Random, but surprisingly charming at the same time.

Ever since Guppy was seen reading a parody of an infamous novel by E.L. James in the episode “iBust A Thief,” moms everywhere who caught a glimpse of it were either shocked or laughed along with their kids. Guppy’s face says it all, he just could not believe what he is reading! It was a risky reference to put in a kids show, especially now Fifty Shades of Grey has become popular, unfortunately. It is shocking that Nickelodeon let this sneaky reference slide in!
