There are Pokémon throughout the franchise that are very strange and have little logic involved with them. Alola saw an influx of these creatures since it was based around the tropical islands of Hawaii, and as such, there were many new Pokémon introduced that had weird concepts such as Palossand and Comfey.

Regardless of how fans feel about Alola as a region, there's no denying that it had some of the weirdest creatures in the franchise and that this generation added more strangeness to the series. Although some of these Pokémon have interesting concepts, they're also quite peculiar.

10 Decidueye

Decidueye is the Grass-type starter of Alola, and it is one of the strangest starters that the franchise has ever seen because it carries a bow in its wings, which shouldn't be logically possible for an owl.

Although the creature isn't simply a regular owl, it still seems weird that it is an archer since it isn't human and doesn't have traditional hands. Luckily, Decidueye is redeemed by the fact that it is such a cool Pokémon in general, and so many fans love it.

9 Mimikyu

Mimikyu is a Pokemon that likes to mimic Pikachu, the mascot of the series. Mimikyu is an interesting creature because it wears a cloth over its ghostly body that looks identical to Pikachu in almost every way.

Some fans theorize that Mimikyu was actually a Pikachu in a previous life; however, this isn't completely known. Mimikyu will go down in the franchise as one of the weirdest Ghost-types and one of the weirdest Alola Pokémon.

8 Cosmog

Cosmog is the pre-evolution of either Solgaleo or Lunala, which are both legendary Pokémon. Since Cosmog is the pre-evolution of a legendary, a lot of fans consider it to be very unusual since most legendaries don't evolve at any point in their lives.

Cosmog also happens to look like a floating piece of space, which doesn't help its case in the weirdness department either. Even though Cosmog is adorable, it is still quite strange.

7 Guzzlord

Guzzlord has giant arms coming out of its mouth, which is surrounded by sharp teeth and a menacing face. Everything about Guzzlord's body is unusual, and that makes sense since it isn't technically a Pokémon, but an Ultra Beast.

Regardless, Guzzlord is technically considered to be a Pokémon in the franchise, and as such, fans are right to question its weird appearance, which is unrivaled by most of the other Pokémon that are present on the Alola region.

6 Wishiwashi

Wishiwashi is normal when it is a single Pokémon; however, it is able to come together with its fellow fish to form a giant creature that looks similar to a whale. No other Pokémon has an ability as powerful as Wishiwashi in terms of uniting together to form a single Pokémon.

Although this ability is great, without a doubt, it is still peculiar, and it is one of the weirdest things that a group of Pokémon is able to do in the franchise. Just the fact that multiple Wishiwashi can form a new creature to use during a Pokémon battle is unrealistic.

5 Buzzwole

Buzzwole has the appearance of a flying insect; however, it is absolutely massive and has large muscles, similar to a Machamp.

Although Buzzwole is considered to be one of the strongest Pokémon that was discovered in the Alola region, it is still a peculiar Ultra Beast none the last since it has the face of an insect in the body of a bodybuilder. It is surprising that Buzzwole is even able to fly through the air with its odd anatomy.

4 Lycanroc

Lycanroc has multiple different forms that it can become depending on what time of day the Rockruff evolves into it. Lycanroc is a great Pokémon for trainers that are beginning their journey in the Alola region; however, it's odd evolution cycle makes it question why the developers decided to go this route.

There are only a few Pokémon that evolve based on the time of day that it is in the region, and Lycanroc is especially peculiar since it evolves into the same Pokémon; however, it simply looks different.

3 Crabominable

Crabominable has hair on its head and a weird facial expression that confuses players every time they run into one since it generally looks powerful; however, it also seems strange.

Crabominable is able to use its giant arms to attack enemies, and this proves to be quite useful during a Pokemon battle. Even though Crabominable is powerful, it is still quite peculiar in terms of its physical design.

2 Comfey

Comfey is a lei, which is a necklace that is used in Hawaii during celebrations. Comfey is a living lei, which is one of the strangest objects that a Pokémon has ever been in the history of Pokémon.

Although Comfey is cute, it doesn't have much in the way of strength since it doesn't evolve, and it's stats are very low. Most trainers avoid catching it simply because of how it looks, and that is probably for the best since it is so weak.

1 Palossand

Palossand is a giant sandcastle that is haunted by a ghost, and for a good reason, a lot of players that encounter this Pokémon in Sun and Moon consider it to be the weirdest creature in the entire game.

There are a lot of inanimate object Pokémon in the franchise; however, Palossand takes the cake for being weird since a sandcastle shouldn't be able to move around. Although there isn't any logic behind Palossand and its biology, at the very least, it is an interesting Pokémon in general, despite being so weird.
