Pokémon from the Hoenn region are usually regarded as some of the best in design that the series has seen in its almost two-decade-old lifespan. Generation 3 added many new dynamics to the franchise, most notably designs that strayed from the original two generations in appearance and abilities.

With so many creative Pokémon, there we're eventually going to be some designs that ended up looking or acting in very weird ways. These Pokémon from the Hoenn region are some of the strangest that the franchise has seen to date, and because of their abilities and appearances, that is no surprise.

10 Seedot

Seedot is very strange, and it's for a basic reason, it looks exactly like a seed with eyes. Seedot barely has anything else about it that makes it appear as an animal, with the exception of its tiny feet that allow it to move around.

Fans that want to catch a Seedot for themselves will find that it is a very powerful Grass-type Pokémon; however, its appearance will off-put many trainers that first see it because of how peculiar it looks.

9 Breloom

Breloom is a Fighting/Grass-type Pokémon, and fans would probably expect that it would be a Poison-type instead. This Pokémon isn't especially powerful; however, it's dual typing can be very useful while battling other Pokémon.

Breloom has a mushroom on its head, and it's Fighting-type is very weird because it doesn't seem like it would have powerful physical abilities just based off of how skinny it is. Regardless, players that want a weird but powerful dual-type from the Hoenn region should look no further from Breloom.

8 Blaziken

Blaziken is a starter from Hoenn, and a lot of fans are infatuated with it quickly because of its cute pre-evolution Torchic, and how powerful Blaziken is in its final form.

However, Blaziken is a fighting chicken, and that is very peculiar, especially compared to some of the more basic themes within the Pokémon franchise and the Hoenn region in general. Most players wouldn't expect to see a giant chicken that can use its leg for powerful kicks; however, the developers did just that by designing Blaziken as a starter.

7 Tropius

Tropius is one of the most creative designs ever to come out of the Grass or Flying-typing. This is because Tropius comes from many different plants and animals to form a theme that is completely unique from any other creature in the franchise to date.

This theme, however, is also weird because it is based on both a tree, a dinosaur, and some form of a bird. Fans can't get enough of Tropius, but it sure is one of the weirdest Grass-types in the franchise!

6 Lileep

Lileep may look like a benign herbivore; however, it is actually one of the most dangerous sea creatures ever to swim in the Pokémon world. Rather it doesn't exactly swim; it attaches itself to the seafloor and can easily use its tentacles to pull in prey that it wants to eat to sustain itself.

Lileep has a very weird design, and players can immediately see that after encountering it, mostly because of the tentacles on its head and it's very weird looking face. Players should obtain one of these fossil Pokémon if they get the chance because even if it is weird, it can actually be surprisingly strong.

5 Loudred

Loudred is the middle evolution of the Exploud evolutionary line, and it evolves from a very tiny and much more civilized looking Whismur. Loudred has a pre-evolution and an evolution that look very different from it, and another thing that makes it strange is its peculiar sound ability that almost no other Pokémon has.

Loudred has a giant mouth and some form of sound collecting antennas on its head that form it into one of the weirdest Pokémon designs to come out of Generation 3. Even if Loudred is a bit weird, it is still loved by so many Pokémon fans.

4 Camerupt

Camerupt is a Fire-type Pokémon that has an active volcano on its back. The volcano can erupt, shooting powerful fire at an enemy, which makes it one of the strongest foes to face in the Pokémon world.

Camerupt is mostly a normal-looking Pokémon; however, the volcano on its back adds a dynamic that is unusual and very weird. Camerupt is insanely powerful and can decimate foes with powerful fire when it feels like it.

3 Mawile

Mawile has an extra set of teeth on the back of its head, and as seen in the photo above, it doesn't exactly fit the rest of its appearance. It can use these teeth to clamp down on enemies that may come it's way, and prey should be wary if they look at my Mawile's frontside and think that it will be a peaceful Pokémon.

Mawile is a great creature in design; however, it is off-putting to players that expect a cute Pokémon and then get something that is more terrifying than adorable.

2 Huntail

Huntail is weird based on its appearance alone, especially because it evolves from a Pokémon that is themed around a clam. Huntail has a long serpent-like body that is blue in color and sharp teeth for grabbing fish Pokémon right out of the water.

It is easy to see why Huntail is weird in appearance because it is monster-like, and it evolves from a Pokémon that would seemingly have a cute evolution. Luckily Clamperl also has another evolution that makes a lot more sense, which is why Huntail is even weirder.

1 Metagross

Metagross is a Pokémon with a completely steel body, and it can use its hidden mind to attack enemies with Psychic-type attacks as well. Metagross is unique in that it has both physical and mental capabilities that are beyond any other Pokémon that use the combination.

Metagross is one of the strongest Pokémon in Generation 3 not just because of its abilities, but also because of its high stats. Metagross is unusual because of the combination between its mental and physical capabilities and the fact that it's basically a giant robot.
