Westworld Awakening is a new VR game that allows players to assume the role of a host and drop right into the chaos that was season two of the show.

If you're hardcore Westworld fans like us, you'll be getting pretty antsy right about now as we eagerly await the arrival of season three. It has been well over a year since season two came to an end, and we won't be getting new episodes until 2020. Until then, those of you with access to VR equipment can fill the void with Westworld Awakening.

The VR title was unveiled this week, and The Verge got a first look at the game. Players assume the body of a newly self-aware host named Kate. Kate finds herself in the middle of the chaos that unfolded during season two. More specifically, when the hosts rebel and there's violence everywhere you turn.

It sounds as if that violence and chaos is apparent as soon as the game begins. Kate is tasked with running from another host who is frantically chasing her with a knife. What's unique to Westworld Awakening is the way in which the player can walk and run. All you need to do is swing your arms by your sides rather than move around the room. Swing them faster and you'll run faster, which we would recommend.

Another plus point of using your arms to walk and run is for some people, it can trick your brain and lessen the chance of you feeling sick, which VR tends to do. Either way, you won't need to stay in Westworld for very long. It only takes five or six hours to complete the entire game. During that time, you will get to grips with your tasks as Kate does too, who has only recently become self-aware.

Unlike Westworld season three, Westworld Awakening comes with no wait whatsoever. The day after the game's existence was revealed, it was released on the Oculus Rift (as well as the newer Rift S), the HTC Vive, and Vive Pro through SteamVR, Oculus Store, and Viveport support. If you own any of the above, you can buy it right now for $29.99.
