Met Gala? More like Meh Gala, am I right? Look, I know the Met Gala is a very stupid thing to care about, and it's a little embarrassing to admit that I’m interested in watching rich people walk up some stairs but... I am. Sue me. This year's Gala, after a one-year pandemic enforced absence, was not a Gala for the ages, however. Billie Eilish's Holiday Barbie/Marilyn dress was gorgeous, and Hailee Steinfeld managed to look completely different without doing anything especially outlandish, but on the whole, meh. Lil Nas X turned up, but his look was better at the VMAs just a few nights before, and that had a better red carpet too. Yes, I care about that as well. It got me thinking though - which video game stars would rock it at the Met Gala?

Geralt, The Witcher

I say 'it got me thinking', but that's technically a lie. It got our features editor Cian Maher thinking, and even prompted him to tweet about it. Since Cian's wardrobe consists of 17 t-shirts (all black), some jeans, and official Guinness socks, we decided maybe I'd be the one to write this up. Still, a good idea is a good idea, and I can't argue with the drip.

Dimitri, Fire Emblem: Three Houses

That cape, darling. Fire Emblem: Three Houses is a highly fashionable game - Bernie's post-time skip haircut aside - but Dimitri just edges it over Claude, Dorothea, and Edelgard. We're talking pre-time skip Dimitri here, by the way. It's also eerily similar to the look Lana Del Rey wore to the 2018 Fashion Awards, another thing that - yep, you guessed it! - I probably care a little bit too much about.

My Player, NBA 2K22

Gotta have that State Farm drip, right?

Lara Croft, Tomb Raider

Tomb Raider Legend 2

Particularly the Tomb Raider: Legend Tokyo look. One day I will write about why that is the single greatest mission opening of all time, but for now you'll have to settle for the bullet points. Lara arrives at a glamorous party seeking information wearing a plunging a-line split leg gown. If you're lost, then just... a dress. A black dress. Anyway, while she's tapping people up for information, the party is invaded and she dives over the bar, pulling her iconic pistols out from somewhere, and takes out the entire troupe of invading thugs while still looking on point.

Goro Majima, Yakuza

Zombie Majima in Yakuza Kiwami

He wears an eyepatch, an open leopard print tuxedo with nothing but washboard abs underneath, leather pants, and silver tipped Oxfords. This isn't even a joke, why isn't he invited every year? Can you imagine him in 2019, the year of camp? Instead we got Jared Leto walking around with his own head. Great.

Lightning, Final Fantasy

Lightning modeling Louis Vuitton

Lightning has a side hustle as a Louis Vuitton model when she's not Finaling all those Fantasys, so she's an insta-pick here. Even away from that though, someone had to be here representing Final Fantasy, one of the most fashionably ostentatious series ever created. Sephiroth is pure 'opulence, you own everything' energy and Ariana Grande is a canonical Final Fantasy character. It wouldn't surprise me if FF14 had its own mini Met Gala going on somewhere.

Arthur Morgan, Red Dead Redemption

Red Dead Redemption 2 Arthur Morgan Escorting A Cart On Foot

The theme for the Met Gala was In America: A Lexicon of Fashion, remember. Actually, don't remember. Who cares? Beside's Billie Eilish's Barbie-Monroe tribute, everyone just kind of... turned up. If a video game character was going to follow this theme though, it would definitely be the melancholic cowboy whose life plays out like a lexicon of fading Americana. Once you get some legendary kills, the drip is exquisite too.

Furfrou, Pokemon

Furfrou Forms

What's that? I'm only putting Furfrou in to link back to an unrelated article I wrote earlier today about Furfrou being Pokemon's most fashionable creature and perfect for Pokemon Go to play around with? How absurd! Now that you're here though you may as well go read it.
