Amaterasu is a strong Kemono with a variety of powerful attacks that can be difficult to avoid. Below, we'll take a look at everything you need to know about hunting this Kemono, including its strengths and weaknesses, the best equipment to use for the hunt, a breakdown of the fight, and the materials you can get.

Amaterasu - Strengths And Weaknesses

  • Attribute - Wood
  • Soft Parts - Head
  • Attribute Weaknesses - Wind
  • Ailment Weaknesses - Poison, Ablaze
  • Attribute Resistances - Wood, Water, Earth
  • Ailment Resistances - Entangled
  • Physical Effectiveness - Slash, Pummel

Amaterasu is a Wood attribute Kemono that takes the most damage from Wind attribute attacks to its head. The Poison and Ablaze ailments are greatly effective against this Kemono, while it completely resists the Entangled ailment. Likewise, Wood, Water, and Earth attribute attacks don't work very well against Amaterasu.

As a flying Kemono, Amaterasu is weak to Karakuri devices that can shoot it out of the sky, like the Repeater Crossbow, Fireworks, and Harpoon, the latter of which you will awaken to during this fight, provided you have the Spring and Stake equipped.

Best Equipment For Fighting Amaterasu

Amaterasu uses high-damage physical attacks during this fight, so we recommend crafting and equipping armor with the highest defense you can. Some Wood attribute resistance is helpful, but be sure to prioritize overall defense. At this stage, the Great Juniper, Brighteye Archer, and Cut-Throat armor sets are all great choices. A combination of these pieces will provide high defense and some useful armor skills as well.

Long-range weapons, like the Bow and Hand Cannon, are good against Amaterasu, as this Kemono usually attacks at close-range. The more distance between you and Amaterasu, the better. However, this Kemono is beatable using any weapon, so bring the one you're most comfortable using. A weapon with high physical damage will work best, followed by a weapon with the Wind attribute.

As mentioned above, the Repeater Crossbow, Fireworks, and Harpoon are great Karakuri to have for this fight. The Repeater Crossbow can be conjured by placing a Glider, Stake, and Glider, the Fireworks can be conjured by making six Torches, and the Harpoon can be conjured with a Spring, Spring, Stake, Spring, Spring, Stake combination. The Harpoon works best against Amaterasu, so definitely bring at least the Spring and Stake Karakuri, with others being optional.

Amaterasu - Fight Breakdown And Moves

Amaterasu mainly attacks using its wings and talons, performing high-speed dashes and swoop attacks to catch you off guard. At first, these attacks can be difficult to avoid, but you should be able to learn the Kemono's patterns and animations as the fight progresses.

The first time you fight Amaterasu, you will be in Minato, and will have aid from your allies. At certain stages of the fight, they will send Karakuri devices to knock down the Kemono, or give you hints of what to do. Take advantage of these tips to make your first fight with Amaterasu a little smoother.

One of Amaterasu's most common attacks is its charge dash. While in the air, Amaterasu will quickly dash toward you, dealing damage. This attack may be repeated a second time. The best way to avoid this attack is to remain cautious when the Kemono flies into the air, and get ready to roll to the side when it dashes. Be prepared to roll again if Amaterasu follows up with a second attack.

Throughout the fight, Amaterasu will fly into the air before diving downward, dealing massive damage where it lands. Sometimes, the Kemono's talons may get stuck in the ground. When this occurs, be sure to get a few attacks in while it recuperates.

Amaterasu has the unique ability to absorb Celestial Thread from the area around itself, causing explosions to occur in the blue-green light. Although this attack is dangerous, you can turn it into an advantage by summoning a Harpoon or Repeater Crossbow to knock down Amaterasu. Just be sure to get clear of the Celestial Thread explosions, first.

Amaterasu has a long-range attack that it will use when you are a certain distance away, conjuring feathers that fly toward you at rapid speed. If the Kemono sweeps one of its wings, get ready to dodge these feathers. This attack may be repeated a second time.

When Amaterasu has taken enough damage, it will enrage and its body will turn red. During this time, Amaterasu will attack more frequently, and it will gain new attacks. You'll need to be even more careful during this time, as Amaterasu's attacks can deal lethal damage.

When enraged, Amaterasu will summon rings of golden light, which it will use to either enhance its aerial dash attack, or gather together to create a massive ball of energy. In either case, when you see Amaterasu summon this golden light, be prepared to dodge a big attack. Similar to its Celestial Thread gathering move, Amaterasu is slightly more vulnerable while gathering energy, which you can turn into an advantage with the right Karakuri.

Amaterasu may also fire a laser from its beak, blasting the area in a sweeping motion. Moving behind the Kemono will allow you to avoid this attack, using a Spring Karakuri to quickly get there.

Amaterasu's feather attack is powered up when enraged. Now, its feathers are able to lock on to you. To avoid these, you'll need to dodge at just the right time. These feathers will also deal much more damage than their normal version, and can be deadly if you are hit with enough of them.
