The Deathstalker is a fierce and unrelenting Kemono, using its agile attacks to overwhelm you. If you want to prevail, you'll need to take every opportunity to prepare. Below, we'll take a look at each of the Deathstalker's weaknesses, the best equipment to use against it, and strategies for the fight.

Deathstalker - Strengths And Weaknesses

  • Attribute - Water
  • Soft Parts - Head, Tail
  • Attribute Weaknesses - Fire
  • Ailment Weaknesses - Poison
  • Attribute Resistances - Wood, Water
  • Ailment Resistances - Ablaze, Fatigue, Frozen, Entangled
  • Physical Effectiveness - Lunge

The Deathstalker is a Water attribute Kemono that will use a variety of physical and Water-based attacks. It takes the most damage on its head and tail, with Fire attribute weapons dealing the most damage. Poison also works well against the Deathstalker, but the other ailments are either heavily resisted or flat-out negated.

Be sure to bring the Stake and Crate Karakuri to this fight, as they will awaken to the Chain Trap Fusion Karakuri. This device places a trap on the ground that, when a Kemono walks over it, activates and traps the beast in place. This Karakuri is perfect for the Deathstalker, enabling you to stop its assault and gain back control. Keep in mind, however, that the Deathstalker will be able to escape more easily with each use of the Chain Trap, meaning its effectiveness decreases as you use it.

The Deathstalker will use its ice to create frozen armor parts that provide a bit of extra protection. However, these armor pieces are actually more fragile than the rest of its body, meaning they will break off after just a few attacks. Target these spots to stagger the Kemono for a second and continue your assault.

Best Equipment To Fight Deathstalker

The best armor set to use for this fight is the Bandit set, crafted using Icetusk materials. This set provides good Water attribute resistance, good normal defense for its level, and the Freezing Recovery skill that allows you to more quickly recover from the Frozen ailment. Upgrading this armor to the Kemono-path will also enable the One Stroke: Fury skill, which works exceptionally well against the Deathstalker thanks to its fragile frozen armor that it reapplies throughout the hunt.

Additionally, on the full Kemono-path, the chest armor unlocks the skill Resurrection, which will negate an attack when you're out of health. This can be very helpful for avoiding the Deathstalker's high-damage attacks.

Although the Deathstalker is weakest to Fire damage, its weakness rating is only three stars. An equally strong physical weapon may perform as well or better, depending on the weapon's stats and skills. This is a tough fight, so use the weapon type you are most comfortable with.

Deathstalker - Fight Breakdown And Moves

The Deathstalker will use a lot of ice-based attacks throughout this fight. Getting hit by these will inflict the Frozen ailment, which, when the bar is full, will cause your stamina to refill more slowly, making dodging subsequent attacks much more difficult. There are various skills, like the Bandit armor's Freezing Recovery, that can help get around this, but it's best to avoid getting hit in the first place.

The Deathstalker can create a wall of ice to jump off, dashing to the area just behind you. Do your best to dodge out of the way, or set up a Spring Karakuri when the Deathstalker makes the ice wall to avoid this attack.

The Deathstalker will always try to flank you, positioning itself in your blind spot and leaping from unseen locations. Use the target lock button to always keep the Kemono in your sights.

Using its claws, the Deathstalker can create a cascading wave of ice crystals that advance forward, dealing damage in the area. Additionally, the Deathstalker may unleash a breath of mist, reducing visibility and increasing the power of its next ice-based attack.

Finding an opportunity to attack the Deathstalker can be difficult, but one will present itself when the Kemono performs its triple claw attack. The Deathstalker will attack the area to its front, leaving its side and back vulnerable for a short duration. Take advantage of situations like this when you can.

When the Deathstalker howls, get ready to dodge. This howl indicates that the Kemono will swiftly dash through you, dealing damage as it moves. This attack will then be repeated a second time, so remain on your guard. After both dashes, you may have a chance to get some damage in.

After the Deathstalker has taken enough damage, the frozen trees on its back will grow, and a white mist will envelop its back, indicating the Kemono is now enraged. While enraged, the Deathstalker will attack more fiercely, and some of its attacks will be empowered, dealing more damage or adding additional moves.

As it enrages, the Deathstalker will engulf the area with ice. Use a Spring or Glider Karakuri to evacuate the area, but remain close by to follow up on the Deathstalker's lengthy recovery time. Sometimes, the Deathstalker may perform a massive attack when enraged, blasting the area with ice. In this case, get far away to avoid this dangerous attack.

The Deathstalker's flanking dash is powered up when enraged. Now, this attack can be executed four times in a row, finishing with a pounce. When the Deathstalker howls, drop everything and prepare to dodge at least four dash attacks.
