Spies in Disguise: Agents on the Run is a free-to-play runner-style mobile game from Denali Publishing. It correlates with the theatrical release of Blue Sky's upcoming movie starring Will Smith. The children's movie Spies in Disguise features Will Smith as a spy named Lance Sterling. Throughout the events of the movie, Lance is accidentally transformed into a pigeon by the experiment-happy Walter Beckett, a tech guru voiced by Tom Holland.

While there are no signs of being able to play as a pigeon in-game, it does look like players will be able to play as a selection of characters. The trailer also reveals exciting gameplay features including glider suits and sports cars.

To start out, it looks like players will be able to choose to run as Lance Sterling, Walter Beckett, or a third character, Marcey Kappel. Players will weave, duck, and jump through missions to collect gold and other in-game rewards. A unique mode will see characters take control of spy-worthy sports cars while others will give them the opportunity to test out their high-tech glider suits. Players will need to upgrade and level up their spies, using special abilities and accrued gadgets to successfully beat the various missions. The aim is to gather characters and spy gadgets from the movie in order to become the best spy on the streets.

Spies in Disguise: Agents on the Run will work as a typical free-to-play title, likely harboring plenty of microtransactions to spend premium currency on. The game will also host weekly rewards and events. Despite the expected money-grabbing mechanics, it looks like a well-made game and an exciting way to build interest in the movie.

Spies in Disguise: Agents on the Run will be available for iOS and Android later this year, but pre-registration open now. The gameplay looks like a lot of fun, incorporating actions like gliding and shooting by way of gadgets. The fast-paced vehicle mode throws a few racing qualities into the mix as well, shaking up the slightly tired mechanics of the classic runner genre. This fresh take on a tried and true formula should earn a respectable following to bolster the movie's theatrical release this Christmas.
