Windows 11 is real – and it'll be a free upgrade for anyone who currently owns Windows 10. Microsoft made the big announcement during a surprise event, giving us our first official look at the OS in action.

This isn’t anything new for Microsoft, as it has a history of offering OS upgrades free to current users. Still, it’s great to know that the majority of PC owners won’t have to shell out additional cash for Windows 11. So long as your PC meets the minimum requirements, Windows 11 can be installed for free.

Here’s a quick look at the specs needed for Windows 11:

  • 64-bit CPU
  • 4GB RAM
  • 64GB storage

Windows 11 is bringing sweeping changes this holiday season, including a new UI and the ability to run Android apps natively. Microsoft has only shown off a few apps running on Windows 11, but it sounds like the entire Amazon Appstore will be made available through the reworked Windows Store.

There’s still a lot we don’t know about the upcoming OS, but it’s great to finally get an official look at Windows 11 in action – and learn that it’ll be a free upgrade for anyone with Windows 10.

A release date is yet to be announced, but Microsoft is hoping to launch Windows 11 this holiday season.
