As any person about their favorite roleplaying experience in a video game, and it's fairly obvious that The Witcher 3 would be a name that would slide off most people's tongues. The game has carved such a rich legacy for itself in just five years that it would be hard to find a single person even remotely interested in video games who hasn't heard of this absolute gem of a title.

There are several reasons as to why this game is so beloved amongst the masses, with its character-driven storytelling being perhaps its biggest strength. A game so reliant on a story-driven experience would fold like a pack of cards if the characters weren't memorable, but CD Projekt Red's writing brought these packets of data to life in the most amazing way possible. Suffice to say, the main questline of The Witcher 3 would be nowhere near as memorable had it not been for its characters, with ten people, in particular, standing out from the crowd for their sheer awesomeness.

10 Ladies Of The Wood

While the first entry of this list might be a bit of a cheat — given the fact that these are three characters, after all — one can't deny the fact that the Ladies Of The Wood simply wouldn't work as individual units.

Rather, it's the sum of the parts that makes them special. The trio is easily one of the most unnerving characters you'll encounter in The Witcher 3, with their mannerisms making players squirm on the edge of the seats... while simultaneously being enthralled by their infectious charm.

9 Zoltan Chivay

Zoltan might be one of Geralt's longtime friends, with a history dating back before the trilogy, but one can't deny the fact that there's really not much separating him and the usual run-of-the-mill dwarven tropes we've become accustomed to in modern times.

However, there are still moments when this rambunctious individual still shines on the main stage, so credit must be given where credit is due.

8 Dandelion

Our lovable bard bags a spot on this list, and it's easy to see why this is the case. Dandelion is easily one of the most expressive and entertaining characters in The Witcher 3, and one need only look at the journal entries — written by him, which is quite a nice touch indeed — to see just how charming this individual actually is.

The best part about Dandelion is that he is no one-trick pony, no matter how people might see him. At a glance, he might just seem like your run-of-the-mill goofball who's there only for comedic relief, but it's abundantly clear that he's also a stellar human being who'll put his life on the line for the people close to him.

7 Sigismund Dijkstra

If Dandelion is a selfless person who can always lift the room up with his antics, then Sigismund Dijkstra is the complete antithesis of this character. Dijkstra is a wily character who's only out to save his own skin and further his own ambitions...

...and yet, the deft manner in which this character is written makes him one of the most memorable newcomers to the Witcher trilogy. Most gamers might not like his character, but that's exactly the point — he's the kind of slimy creature that people hate, and yet, they just can't get enough of.

6 Phillip Strenger, A.K.A The Bloody Baron

The manner in which the Bloody Baron is introduced in the game makes him seem like a horrible and irredeemable person. However, it's only through multiple interactions with him that you realize just how deep his character really is.

The Bloody Baron is every person who had a horrible phase in their lives and did unspeakably bad things as a result. While there's no reason to sympathize with a person who's so unhinged, one can't help but feel sorry for the fact that his realizations came a bit too late.

5 Vesemir

The wise witcher of Kaer Morhen also has one of the most heartbreaking tales in The Witcher 3, and it can confidently be said that no person was ready for what would happen in the battle against the Wild Hunt.

Vesemir always served as the voice of reason in tough situations, allowing people to think with a clear mind and not panic about anything. There's a reason why Ciri went ballistic after Vesemir died at the hands of Imlerith — she couldn't believe that a person so close to her heart would meet such an unceremonious fate.

4 Yennefer Of Vengerberg

Yennefer might've made her first video game appearance in the third title, but fans of the series know just how important she is to the overarching plot. She is a prominent figure in Geralt's life with admirable characteristics and a heart of gold... once you get to know her, that is.

Her exterior might be somewhat tough to crack, but doing so will reveal a determined person who will do everything in her power for the ones she loves. And one really can't ask more of her than that.

3 Triss Merigold

However, if you happen to be a Triss fan, then you can definitely ask more from Yennefer. While the raven-haired sorceress might've played a pivotal role in Geralt's life, one can't deny that she can be quite nonchalant, selfish, and dismissive at times — three words that are the completely opposite descriptors of Triss Merigold.

These qualities, along with the fact that Triss just has that girl-next-door charm, make Triss Merigold just a tad bit more lovable and endearing than her competition.

2 Ciri

A major chunk of The Witcher 3's main quest involves searching for an important figure in Geralt's life who's on the run. Since this person has never appeared in the games before, CD Projekt Red needed to knock it out of the park when it came to introducing this character. Obviously, they didn't disappoint.

Ciri is easily one of the most memorable characters in The Witcher 3. Her hard-as-nails personality and a strong moral compass mean that she never shies away from doing what's right, and the bond she shares with Geralt is quite natural and one of the shining highlights of the games.

1 Geralt Of Rivia

It would be impossible to talk about the best characters in The Witcher 3 and not give due props to a person who might just be one of the greatest video game protagonists of all time. Geralt of Rivia is everything that one would expect a witcher to be, and more. His no-nonsense attitude and dry wit help in making a strong first impression... but CD Projekt Red knew better than to make Geralt so one-dimensional.

Instead, what we get is a person who — even after undergoing various mutations — is still capable of being more human than the majority of cretins you meet throughout your journey. This, coupled with a rational mindset (because why not) makes Geralt the greatest character in The Witcher series.
