The Witcher 3's current-gen update rolled out yesterday. Free to everyone who already owns the game, the update not only makes everything look better, but also adds a few new features. While many appear to be celebrating the update, a number of people playing on PC have been running into some issues.

Sharing the issues on various subreddits (thanks, GamesRadar), players have been pointing to problems with The Witcher 3's ray tracing, DLSS, and highlighting a number of things that have been making the game crash. Ray tracing appears to be receiving top billing in the complaints department right now, and while it seems to be making the game crash in some instances, the main problem players have been having is that the feature severely slows the game down.

Odds are CD Projekt Red will see these complaints and attempt to tackle and fix them as soon as possible. That may take days if not longer, during which time players have been finding and sharing temporary fixes of their own. While avoiding having ray tracing enabled seems to be the best advice to follow for the time being, if you've been experiencing crashes for any reason, there's some advice being thrown around that appears to be pretty reliable.

One player has reported loading up a save made prior to the current-gen patch and then switching to your new one afterwards seems to have fixed any issues they've been having. A somewhat convoluted process, but not so tricky that it wouldn't be worth doing while waiting for an official fix if any of the problems people have been suffering with have been so persistent that the game is unplayable.

As touched upon already, other than performance issues on PC, reactions to the current-gen version of The Witcher 3 appear to be largely positive. Probably somewhat predictable since it is effectively a better version of one of the most well-received games ever made. Plus, that additional content includes elements from the game's Netflix show. The massively popular adaptation hadn't even been announced when the original version of The Witcher 3 launched in 2015.
