There aren't many things that could be added to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to make it better than it already is. The seven-year-old game is considered to be one of the best action-RPGs ever created. Most fans of the game may have played through it three or four times now, and as good as it is, things could be beginning to feel a bit stale. What's needed is a fresh perspective – perhaps one in first person.

Gervant First Person is a mod for The Witcher 3 that allows you to literally experience the world through Geralt's eyes. Creator crthdr's mod makes it look like the game was always in first-person, even incorporating combat into the equation. You can slice through bandits, ignite monsters with Igni, and decapitate fools while riding Roach, all in first person. As spotted by PC Gamer, you can even switch back to the default third-person view just with the press of a button.

But changing from third-person to first-person view is more than just about changing the camera angle – a lot of gameplay features need to be adjusted as well. For instance, you can't lock onto an enemy during a combat scenario, knockdown is changed to stagger, the roll becomes a jump, and movement has no inertia build-up. A few more changes have been made – you can check them out on the Nexus Mods page.

The creator is also experimenting with having the cut-scenes play with a first person view, however, that will mess with the cinematography, of course.

As for what's happening with the series, The Witcher 3 was supposed to get a next-gen upgrade last year, but in October it was announced that it got pushed to some time this year, along with the upgrade for Cyberpunk 2077. As of now, it should be arriving in the second quarter of the year.

Hopes for the next-gen versions were high, as the Game of the Year Edition for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S even received a PEGI rating just a day before the delay was announced. CDPR later noted that "the date mentioned on PEGI's website is the rating's issue date".
