Despite what the witchers - or at least Geralt himself - would have the world to believe, witchers also have feelings. And that means they're capable of creating deep relationships with other people, be it humans, sorceresses, dwarves, or other witchers.

In The Witcher 3, the biggest question when it comes to relationships is - will Geralt romance Yennefer or Triss? That can put the emphasis on his romances when, in fact, Geralt's friendships with the game's characters are just as important, if not more. Geralt has built many friendships over the years but some of them are simply deeper and truer than others.

11 Vernon Roche

Vernon Rocher Witcher 3

Vernon Roche and Geralt know each other for quite some time but they're not as close as Geralt is with his other friends. Possibly because they originally stood on the opposite sides. It also doesn't help that Roche doesn't trust anybody, including Geralt, as he says in The Witcher 3. That said, he does join Geralt in the fight against the Wild Hunt even though he finds it difficult to fight alongside Letho whom he doesn't trust in the slightest.

10 Dudu

Dudu Witcher 3

When Geralt first arrives at Novigrad and is looking for Triss, he remembers Dudu when he sees a doppler burning at the stake, and he hopes that Dudu is alright. He then finds the doppler but the two men don't have that many interactions in the game, and their friendship mostly happens behind the scenes. However, Dudu does trust Geralt enough to come out of hiding which counts for something, and he helps Geralt free Dandelion by impersonating Caleb Menge which is a dangerous task.

9 Lambert And Eskel

Lambert Eskel

Lambert and Eskel are closer to Geralt's family than friends, a bit similar in this matter to Vesemir. However, it's not much of a stretch to also call them his friends - for they are friends, as becomes obvious when they decide just to relax while at Kaer Morhen and have fun.

Eskel is kinder to Geralt while Lambert often has biting remarks but spends more time with Geralt than Eskel. In the end, it's a tie between them when it comes to the question of which one is a better friend of Geralt's.

8 Shani

Witcher 3 Shani

Even if somebody doesn't like Geralt (which is rare), it's difficult to deny that unlike so many people, he can stay on good terms with his ex-girlfriends. When Geralt reunites with his old friend, the medic Shani in Hearts of Stone, they quickly resume their friendship and are happy to learn what the other one was doing while during the years they haven't seen each other. Regardless of whether Geralt chooses to romance Shani again or not, she's there for him and helps him investigate the mystery surrounding Olgierd von Everec.

7 Vesemir

Vesemir

Vesemir is more a stepdad to Geralt than one of his friends so it's difficult to rank their friendship. However, he's one of the people who's been in Geralt's life for the longest time ever and he taught Geralt a lot of the things he knows. Vesemir might seem like the type who finds it difficult to relax but there's more to him than meets the eye. He's not very open about his past with Geralt and they don't spend that much time together in the game but their long history still means Vesemir deserves a spot on this list. Especially since they spent six months or so together on the road before the main events of the game start.

6 Triss Merigold

Triss and Geralt have a close relationship that moves on the thin line between friendship and romance. They're just as close friends in the game as they are in the books. Triss isn't so happy about the fact that Geralt seems to prefer Yennefer over her but that won't stop her from trying to help him find out where Dandelion and Ciri are. She also fights alongside Geralt and the rest of his friends during the battle at Kaer Morhen.

5 Yennefer Of Vengerberg

Yennefer Toussaint

Are Geralt and Yennefer friends? Yes - and no. They don't always get along but the bond between them is so strong they will always find their way to each other nonetheless. Even when they're not together as a couple, Yennefer will still help Geralt if he needs it. That's what she and Triss have in common but Yennefer ranks higher than Triss since she's also closer to Ciri - and that's something that's very important for Geralt.

4 Zoltan Chivay

Zoltan Witcher 3

Ironically enough, Zoltan and Geralt almost seem like better friends than Geralt and Dandelion in The Witcher 3. They certainly spend more time together and help each other on more than one occasion. Geralt helps Zoltan solve his money issues, and he, on the other hand, fights alongside the Wild Hunt.

But unlike Dandelion, Zoltan doesn't visit Geralt at Corvo Bianco in Toussaint and is only mentioned in the DLC - either by Triss or Dandelion, depending on who comes to see Geralt at the end of Blood and Wine.

3 Regis

Witcher 3 Regis

Despite the difference in their species and ages, Regis is one of Geralt's closest friends, right there at the top with Dandelion. Regis and Geralt spent a long time traveling side by side in the books and in the end, Regis sacrifices himself for his friend. They rekindle their friendship in Blood and Wine. Geralt is genuinely happy to see Regis safe and sound and they spent a lot of time together catching up - as well as fighting side by side. In the end, Regis also chooses to support Geralt no matter what his decision is even if it hurts Regis, once again proving the strength of their friendship.

2 Dandelion

Witcher 3 Dandelion Forest

Dandelion's and Geralt's close friendship is the best proof of the fact that opposites do attract. Dandelion is chatty, reckless, and irresponsible, but also brave and he would do anything for his friends. Their paths reunite when Geralt goes to save Dandelion from prison after he learns that Dandelion helped Ciri when she came to Novigrad. Dandelion and Geralt actually don't have that many scenes together in the main game but they still get the opportunity to catch up. What's more, Dandelion is the one who helps to free Geralt if he ends up in prison in the DLC Blood and Wine.

1 Ciri

Ciri

Ciri is like a daughter to Geralt - after all, he was the one who raised her, more or less, and he knew her ever since she was a child. However, their relationship wouldn't be what it is if they also weren't such close friends. Ciri and Geralt share many details about their private life with one another, and unlike with Yennefer or Triss, Geralt doesn't have to worry that what he'll say to Ciri will somehow worsen their relationship. They experience many crazy adventures together and the easy camaraderie between them is one of the game's highlights.
