The game The Witcher 3 is a dream come true for all players who enjoy doing as many side quests as possible. The game has a clear storyline but also gives to the players a fair share of opportunities to stray away from the main story. Geralt can not only look for Ciri, but also take on contracts for killing beasts, play Gwent, travel around a lot, and romance multiple characters.

Each of the side quests is then different. Some are more violent and Geralt can't finish them without fighting enemies, be it monsters or humans. Others are much more peaceful and relaxed. And then there are those who are truly hard, and some that just look like it.

10 Hardest: Return To Crookback Bog

Witcher 3 Return To Crookback Bog

The quest Return to Crookback Bog can be a bitter pill to swallow for some of the players - because it will play out based on difficult choices Geralt previously in the game. And the quest doesn't have a 100% happy ending - just a bittersweet one, or a bad one. So even when Geralt finishes it, it still feels like a lost cause. What's more, Geralt has to take on multiple enemies during the quest, the most difficult of which is the giant fiend he faces.

9 Surprisingly Easy: The Iron Maiden

Jutta An Dimun Witcher 3

The side quest Iron Maiden sees Geralt fighting the Skellige born-and-raised warrior Jutta. No man has ever defeated Jutta, and she promised to give her affection to the one man who will be able to best her in combat. Defeating her isn't that difficult, at least if Geralt is on the right level before he faces her. And once the fight is done, Geralt can look forward to a pleasant evening spent in Jutta's home.

8 Hardest: In Wolf's Clothing

Witcher 3 Freya's Dead Garden

The side quest In Wolf's Clothing is tied to the main storyline in which Geralt and Yennefer are trying to find out whether Ciri is still in Skellige. During their investigation, they learn there's a cursed werewolf in Freya's Garden. The fight itself isn't as bad, but what makes this quest difficult is that there are several options for how it can end - and most of them require a lot of running around the vast garden and searching for the right place and items. Therefore, to finish it, and finish it well, the player can take quite a lot of time.

7 Surprisingly Easy: Mutual Of Beauclair's Wild Kingdom

Witcher 3 Blood And Wine Mutual Of Beauclairs Wild Kingdom

This side-quests sees Geralt going against a basilisk who killed several people. However, not all is as obvious as it seems. Geralt soon learns that the dead victims knew where the basilisk had its territory and yet ignored the warning not to enter it.

If Geralt decides to spare the basilisk, not only will it help his reputation but he will also get money and won't have to undertake an unnecessary fight.

6 Hardest: Towerful Of Mice

Fyke Isle

The quest Towerful of Mice happens in Velen relatively shortly after the game's beginning - and if the player isn't prepared for it, they might struggle with completing it in the right way. The quest has multiple possible endings, and it's easy to go for the wrong one which will lead to the death of many people. It also contains a rather challenging boss fight which can be frustrating and hard to win even for more experienced players.

5 Surprisingly Easy: A Matter Of Life And Death

A Matter of Life and Death

Even Geralt needs to relax sometimes. And so when Triss decides to save a young man from the witch hunters, Geralt visits a lavish ball with her. Once there, he can win rare Gwent cards into his collection, loot a lot of food and alcohol, and rekindle the old romance with Triss by kissing her in the maze. It's true that Geralt has to fight several enemies in the maze but they're all human and it's not so hard to defeat them.

4 Hardest: Carnal Sins

Witcher 3 Carnal Sins

The quest Carnal Sins takes place in Novigrad and while it seems surprisingly straightforward at first, it's easy to make a mistake while playing it for the first time - which will lead to the quest's premature end.

In the quest, Geralt is looking for a serial killer who also attacked Dandelion's girlfriend Priscilla - and if he'll make the wrong choice at one point in the story, he'll never find the true murderer.

3 Surprisingly Easy: Big Game Hunter

Big Game Hunter

Unlike most quests, Geralt doesn't have to kill living creatures during Big Game Hunter - if he chooses not to. Geralt accompanies the animal lover and an artist Count Beledal on his trip to the Beauclair nature, and he can actually help an injured animal instead of cutting its life short. Count Beledal will actually be grateful if Geralt spares the animals. As a result, Geralt will not only get a financial reward but also a beautiful painting into his collection.

2 Hardest: There Can Only Be One

There Can Only Be One

The duchy of Toussaint abides by five virtues - and if Geralt proves he possesses all of these virtues, he will get a rare sword from the lady of the lake as a reward. However, to trigger the quest, Geralt has to speak to the hermit staying at Lac Célavy. And if Geralt does it later in the game, it's possible he had already lost the chance to prove some of the virtues by then, and the player will have to restart an older save to be able to finish the quest.

1 Surprisingly Easy: The Cave Of Dreams

Witcher 3 Cave Of Dreams

The most challenging thing about The Cave of Dreams is that some players will never get the chance to play it. Geralt can only take on the quest if he finishes the contract The Phantom of Eldberg before the time comes to choose the future ruler of Skellige. But once Geralt manages to get into the cave, the fights awaiting him there aren't as difficult as one might expect - and Geralt also isn't alone to take the enemies on as he travels with a group of warriors from Skellige.
