There's no game quite like The Witcher 3, with its combination of scope, ambition, and polish (at least after the first few updates). CD Projekt Red truly knocked it out of the park with their 2015 fantasy RPG, which fans are still devouring today in anticipation for their upcoming Cyberpunk 2077.

However, if one is looking for a different game with a similar flair, one of the ten entires below might scratch the same itch. Few of these are exact copies of Geralt's story, but they all contain elements fans of The Witcher 3 would appreciate, whether that be the setting, RPG mechanics, or deep narrative.

10 Skyrim

Bethesda's legendary Elder Scrolls franchise never feels as refined or focused as The Witcher. However, this is just what fans want from the company's fantasy worlds. Skyrim's main story only takes about twelve to fifteen hours to complete, but most players will immediately stray from the path and do side quests, build up their character, and fool around with the world's inhabitants. While Geralt is a defined character, Skyrim lets players mold every facet of their avatar.

9 The Witcher One And Two

What better way to switch things up than by seeing where the series came from? The first two games in the series are not open-world adventures and generally smaller.

Some older gaming conventions might make it difficult for players to get into. However, even if one does not complete these prior adventures, they are worth playing to see how both the series and developer evolved.

8 God of War

While not as deep of an RPG, nor as open as The Witcher 3God of War's Kratos has some parallels to Geralt of Rivia. Both are grizzled warriors who rarely show emotion, yet each game's narrative centers around a father and child relationship. The main difference is Geralt being more openly caring towards Ciri than Kratos is towards Atreus at the beginning of God of War.

7 Assassin's Creed: Odyssey

The Assassin's Creed series has come along way since its days of hunting down targets as Altair or EzioOdyssey is a massive, sprawling RPG with a giant world map for players to explore. Like The Witcher 3, the player also makes dialogue choices that impact the story. Like The Witcher's setting drawing influence from Slavic lore, Odyssey differentiates itself from the typical Tolkien-influenced aesthetic by taking place in Ancient Greece.

6 Kingdom Come: Deliverance

This historical RPG takes place in the Kingdom of Bohemia in the early 1400's, and features real historical figures. As far as first-person, open-world RPGs go, it is about as deep as one can get when it comes to micromanaging equipment and character stats.

One of the biggest complaints lobbied at it is the abundance of bugs and technical issues, so be warned about these before heading into this expansive world.

5 Divinity: Original Sin 2

While an isometric experience, Divinity: Original Sin 2 shares its top-notch writing and length with The Witcher 3. The RPG mechanics go far deeper, however. The best thing about this series, and what makes it unique from the other games on the list, is the ability to go through the main story with a friend, either locally or online. Few games of this scope allow such a feature.

4 Greedfall

Open-World RPGs are more plentiful than ever, so fans of the genre will never be wanting for more. Greedfall distinguishes itself from the crowded pack with a unique setting that draws allegorical connections to the colonization of the new world in the middle of the prior millennium and all the problems that arose from the clashing of worlds.

3 Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales

This one makes it on the list for obvious reasons. Fans looking for more stories within the world cannot find something much better than Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, save for the original books.

Gameplay takes influence from the Gwent minigame from The Witcher 3. The campaign is also beefy, taking upwards of thirty-hours to finish. It is hard to say when the next full-length Witcher game will happen, so Thronebreaker may be the last fans see of the series for a while.

2 Dragon Age: The Inquisition

The Dragon Age series should satisfy any fantasy RPG fan. The story and world does not have the same grit, but there is a focus on character relationships signature to many BioWare games players will appreciate. This was seen as the last great game BioWare has put out so far, though it is not too late for them to redeem themselves with Dragon Age 4.

1 Red Dead Redemption 2

Rockstar's recent opus is not an RPG nor fantasy by any stretch of the word. Like Witcher 3Red Dead Redemption 2 uses a massive open-world setting to tell a deeply-nuanced tale. Side quests are not as abundant as in other games on the list, but the world feels infinitely more alive. The Witcher 3 has superb voice acting and writing unmatched by most of its kin; Red Dead Redemption 2 certainly gives it a run for its money.
