Looks like Netflix has no plans to slow down on its adaptations of The Witcher series. With the first season launching with large success on the platform back in 2019, a second season was immediately ordered and is currently underway. Then Netflix announced that it would be working on a prequel series to The Witcher and it looks like that prequel is about to get rolling. The streaming service has just announced the very first cast member for the show.
The news was shared over on Netflix's official Twitter where it announced that Jodie Turner-Smith has officially been cast in The Witcher: Blood Origin.
Best known for her roles in the film "Queen & Slim" and on series like "Jett" and "Nightflyers", Jodie will take on the character of Éile in the upcoming prequel. Éile is described as a fierce warrior with the voice of a goddess. In the series, Éile has left her clan and position as the Queen's guardian to follow her heart as a musician. However, she is soon pulled back to the way of the blade by events that transpire on the continent.
Turner-Smith sounds like a great choice for the role. In the roles she has taken on, she has proven her range to handle the unforgivable world of The Witcher. You can check her out for yourself in Amazon's upcoming "Without Remorse" or in A24's "After Yang", both releasing later this year.
The prequel series, which was announced in the summer of last year, will be a six-part series. It will focus on the world 1200 years before the start of The Witcher's first season. It will cover the events leading up to the Conjunction of the Spheres, where the worlds of monsters, elves, and men all merged to become one. The show will also tackle the creation of the very first Witcher.
This prequel is just one of the spinoffs being made for The Witcher. Netflix has also announced an animated spinoff film called "The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf". This animated film will focus on the origin story of Geralt's mentor and fellow Witcher, Vesemir. While no release date has been given for the prequel, Season 2 of The Witcher is currently well underway, despite a few setbacks.
