Though there's still no word on when exactly The Witcher will release, aside from sometime before the end of the year, Netflix's brand new dark fantasy based on Andrzej Sapkowski's novels has generated enough buzz and excitement to fill the Northern Kingdoms. With The Witcher 3 now on the Switch, it's the perfect time to tease the upcoming series and all of its many beastly delights.

Netflix has certainly pulled out all the stops with their newest and most monstrous IP. From the looks of Netflix's teaser trailer, the show will not only examine Yennefer's backstory and Ciri's relationship with the Witcher, but also Geralt's own struggle with humankind. Primed to showcase earlier renditions of his backstory, such as the reasoning behind his title of "the butcher of Blaviken," it's clear that Netflix is sticking to the books more so than the games, and for good reason.

Sapkowski's novels interestingly display humanity through the eyes of a Witcher, whose run-ins with monsters, ghouls, and other beasts of various kinds showcases the extreme depravity of the many humans that occupy his social circle. About the only thing Geralt is known to adore above all else that isn't human is his trusty steed, Roach, shown in full detail below. The upsurge in fan acclaim after Netflix first revealed Roach is enough to prove this show will have an immense following from both older and newer fans of the franchise.

Most screens of Henry Cavill with a sword have only shown one, whereas Witchers are well-known to carry two swords, one that is iron meant for humans and the other silver for beasts. It's unclear if Netflix has simply done away with this detail, or if they have simply kept it under wraps until the premiere, though one thing is for certain: Henry Cavill plays a mean Geralt. Especially in these newest screens, such as the one shown below, Geralt looks to be, much like nearly every excited fan, in no mood for waiting.

Following the events of The Last Wish, Netflix's new show will examine in great detail some of the most memorable plot points behind Geralt's past that often become cloudy and forgotten in the games.
