Everyone's favourite do-gooder general and leader, Liu Bei, is fought as a boss in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. Similarly to other characters who are fought as bosses up to this point, he has been temporarily turned into a demon.

Liu Bei is fought during the mission Behold the Glaive of Righteousness, but to reach him, you must fight and defeat the minibosses Wen Chou and Yan Liang, both of whom stand in your way to stop you from progressing to the second main section of this mission. Liu Bei is attuned to lightning and will use several electricity-based attacks, so be prepared.

Liu Bei Boss Fight Strategy

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty - Lui Bei boss fight, an example of his electricity rings over the arena

Throughout the whole fight, Liu Bei relies heavily on lightning attacks. Most of his attacks will be imbued with electricity, and he will cast lightning spells at you, which can be a lot to deal with. At the start of the fight, Liu Bei will begin by flying around the arena. While moving forward, Liu Bei will close the distance between you and swing at you immediately.

During this fight, you might find it difficult to land hits on Liu Bei since he spends so much time flying around and refusing to land. His attacks are hard to predict because of awkward camera angles and floaty animations on his swings. Deflecting, therefore, will be a challenge.

The best way to combat Liu Bei while he is in the air is to keep close to him.

If you stay close, he will land more often and use his tail to attack you instead. This is the best time to deal damage to him.

The main problem in this fight is Liu Bei's electrical orb attack. This move is his most dangerous by far and will completely throw you off if you are not prepared for it.

During the fight, he will fire out several electrical orbs. These will land randomly around the arena and explode after a second or two. When they explode, all at different times, they release a shockwave of electricity that covers the entire arena in a circle that rapidly advances out from the orb. This will happen two to three times per orb; for a total of four to six rings of electricity.

There's no surefire way to defend against this attack, but if you're adept at deflecting, you can rely solely on that to get you through the onslaught of lightning. This strategy isn't foolproof since Liu Bei will also be putting pressure on you with his physical attacks immediately after summoning the pulsing orbs.

If you get hit by enough lightning attacks, you will be hit with the Shock debuff. This will stun you for a second as the debuff takes effect, and then you will periodically take Spirit damage.

The ring from the orbs can be deflected or jumped over, but both of these options to defend against it aren't always going to work.

You should expect to be hit by a few of them, and you should especially prepare to be hit by the lightning debuff several times in this fight.

To this end, you should bring plenty of anti-static needles and use them before or after the debuff takes effect.

As mentioned, Liu Bei will be using several electrical attacks, while also enchanting his weapons with the element to deal more damage to you. Due to this, you should have gear with considerable lightning defence, and if you don't have any anti-static needles to hand, you can arm yourself with Metal-phase spells to dispel the Shock debuff.

Managing the lighting and keeping your health high will be a massive challenge in this fight, but you must watch out for Liu Bei's Critical Strikes. During our attempts at the fight, we only saw him use one critical while at half HP.

In this attack, Liu Bei was at a medium distance from us. If he uses this Critical Strike, Liu Bei will fly towards you and grab you with his tail. If the attack connects, it will initiate an incredibly nasty grab attack. You will be thrown into the air and you will hang there while Liu Bei juggles you midair, performing a multi-hit combo.

Suffice it to say, if this attack lands while you're not at full HP, you will almost certainly die from being hit by it.

As with any Critical Strike, your best option to defend against it is to deflect it. Watch the timing on this one because sometimes it can be awkward. A potential way to survive the attack is to be quick on your toes and use a Dragon Cure Powder item, which will gradually restore HP for a set time as soon as you see the attack coming.

Despite the combo, the HP periodically restored by the item might be enough to tick you over and keep you alive. This strategy, however, isn't the most reliable since it requires incredibly quick reactions.

Another nasty attack to watch out for is Liu Bei's triple-spinning attack while he's in midair.

He will essentially spin at you like a helicopter's propeller and swing multiple times at you.

He will land briefly after performing the attack, which will give you an opening to strike.

Since you will have Guan Yu with you by default in this mission, you should consider bringing another Follower to pad your numbers. Giving Liu Bei more targets will help you keep a low profile and chip away at him.

With that in mind, your Followers will be ill-prepared to dodge or deal with any of the lightning rings, meaning they will almost certainly die during the fight.

The moments when Liu Bei lands or is distracted by your Followers will be your best chance to deal damage to him. When he's on the ground, he might use his tail to swipe at you if you approach from behind, spinning in a circle. Deflecting into this attack to stay close to him will be the best course of action, setting you up nicely to attack.

Due to your Followers dying so frequently during this fight, we recommend using Qinglong as your Divine Beast. The healing area created by summing Qinglong is excellent and will revive any allies waiting to be picked up.
