World of Warcraft: Dragonflight has added quite a few new threats to the game; threats we have never really heard of in the lore until this expansion. One such threat is the Djaradin, a race of big and buff fire giants who are apparently ancient enemies of the dragons. And the best part is, they use magmammoths as their mounts.
If the Djaradin can tame and ride those awesome magmammoths, then it stands to reason that we should be able to do so too, right? Well, we are, in the form of the Loyal Magmammoth mount which we can earn all by ourselves. Just be prepared to have it shrink on you a little bit since all of us are shorter than the Djaradin.
Required Items
The Loyal Magmammoth mount is no simple item that drops off a rare mob. Rather, it is one that requires a few steps, but absolutely zero luck, so there’s some good news.
First, you’ll need to max out your reputation with Wrathion and Sabellion at the Obsidian Citadel by reaching the True Friend rank with both black dragons (there is an achievement for doing this for each of them). Once that’s done, you’ll need two items from their quartermasters:
Item Name |
Quartermasters That Sell Them |
Cost |
---|---|---|
Netherforged Lavaproof Boots |
Samia Inkling and Xaldrass |
800 gold |
Sturdy Obsidian Glasses |
Lorena Belle and Atticus Belle |
800 gold |
Once you’ve got both of these, head over to Yries Lightfingers at the Obsidian Citadel (by all the tents set up to the right of the throne) and buy the Magmammoth Harness from him using the two aforementioned items.
Getting The Mount
Once you've got your harness, make your way to one of four Tame Magmammoths across The Waking Shores and use it on them. Here are their general locations and coordinates:
- Burning Ascent – 33.42 72.07
- Dragonbane Keep – 23.66 71.44
- Scalecracker Keep – 66.34 24.46
- Smoldering Perch – 37.10 44.53
Do not try using the harness on a hostile magmammoth, because it won’t work. Make sure the magmammoth you’re targeting has “Tame” in its name and is friendly (its name is green, not red).
As soon as the mount is added to your inventory and learned, you will receive an achievement – Grand Theft Mammoth – and will no longer be able to buy the required items from their quartermasters to tame another one.
