Since the Wrath of the Lich King expansion, World of Warcraft has seen the addition of the achievement system, which gave us more things to do. With achievements as simple as reaching level ten to those much more complex, WoW has seen more and more regular and unique achievements over the course of its expansions.

As you can probably expect, some achievements are more challenging than others. But then, there are some that are impossibly hard. Here are the eight most difficult achievements to get in World of Warcraft.

Achievements that are no longer obtainable will not be included in this list.

8 10,000 World Quests Completed

Let’s start with an achievement that may not be hard technically to pull off, but in reality, makes you want to pull your hair out so much that it is, in fact, incredibly hard to accomplish. Completing 10,000 world quests is something you can naturally do… just over the course of multiple years.

Someone who is extremely dedicated to the grind can get this done much faster (if they do world quests from Legion, Battle for Azeroth, and Shadowlands on the daily), but in no universe is that something that’s easy to do. Or fun.

7 Going To Need A Bigger Bag

While it may seem simple, this achievement is a significant time-sink. Going To Need A Bigger Bag requires you to loot a whopping 56 rare items from the Timeless Isle; trinkets, toys, pets, and mounts included.

A point to specify here is that the battle pets can be sold in the auction house. However, in order to receive credit for collecting these pets, you need to be the one to actually loot them.

6 Khan

This player-versus-player (PvP) achievement is one of the toughest out there. It is one of the meta-achievements for battlegrounds, and requires you to get smaller meta achievements for five different battlegrounds (a meta-achievement is one that encompasses a group of achievements all pertaining to an individual thing).

That means, among other things, that you have to win 100 of each of the battlegrounds, and considering the fact that Isle of Conquest is one of them, that’s a long time doing PvP. Make no mistake though, there is a nice chunk of individual achievements in Khan that are tough to do and might not even get done by the time you get your total of 500 victories.

5 100 Exalted Reputations

This achievement is an incredible grind. It rewards the Pureheat Courser mount and the “Esteemed” title, neither of which are things to scoff at. Simply put, getting 100 reputations to Exalted may not be the most difficult thing to accomplish, but it is most certainly a time sink, to say the least.

Between the reputations that are time-gated by dailies and those that require you to simply kill hundreds (sometimes thousands) of NPCs to slowly gain reputation, this achievement is no small thing and may very well be one of the hardest grinds in the game.

4 What A Long, Strange Trip It’s Been

This is the meta-achievement for all the holiday events in World of Warcraft and rewards the coveted Violet Proto-drake (speaking of holidays, we’ve got a Brewfest guide to help you on your journey). To be sure, there are some easy achievements mixed into this one, but at the same time, there are plenty of tough ones.

However, the biggest reason What A Long, Strange Trip It’s Been is on this list is because its completion is restricted by time. Each holiday only occurs once a year and only lasts for a short period of time, forcing you to act quickly and during sometimes inconvenient times to get these achievements done. And if you miss an achievement or two during a holiday, you’ve got to wait a year to try again.

3 Warlord Of Draenor

World of Warcraft Gladiator's Sanctum level 3

Not to be confused with the expansion itself, but this achievement is another PvP meta-achievement (tied to your garrison’s Gladiator Sanctum) that requires you to kill a great many players. Specifically, 500 players of each primary race (of the opposing faction), Pandaren included, while in Draenor.

The amount of time and love for PvP required for this one is hefty, but its saving grace is the fact that you can get credit for kills in any PvP combat, meaning world PvP is acceptable too (so is Ashran).

2 Insane In The Membrane

Returning to achievements based on reputations, Insane In The Membrane is the hardest reputation-related achievement to get and is a Feat of Strength (it won’t show up in the Achievements tab if you search it in-game).

It requires you to get Honored with the Bloodsail Buccaneers and Exalted with Booty-bay, Everlook, Gadgetzan, Ratchet, Darkmoon Faire, and Raveholdt. These are some of the most annoying and difficult reputations to get in the game.

You can get the 100 Exalted Reputations achievement without maxing out any of the reputations required to achieve Insane In The Membrane.

1 Hero Of The Horde/Alliance

Yet another PvP achievement, this one is as hard as it is due to the nature of PvP in World of Warcraft. It requires you to finish a PvP season in the top half a percent of the rated battleground ladder, and accomplishing this practically makes you a PvP pro.

The grind for this is real, and since it’s PvP, you can get royally tilted if battlegrounds don’t go your way, and you must still persevere. To get this achievement you truly need to be one of the best.NEXT: Every World of Warcraft Expansion Pack, Ranked
