The Wrath of the Lich King expansion for World of Warcraft saw the addition of plenty of new weapons of all types. While many are your run-of-the-mill looking axes, swords, polearms, bows, and others that drop in the open world or even dungeons, some truly go above and beyond with their design.

Wielding some of these incredible-looking weapons certainly makes your character look cool, but they are effectively status symbols too, as the attention you receive with these weapons equipped will garner respect and awe. So, let’s look at the best-looking weapons Wrath of the Lich King has to offer.

There are many, many good-looking swords in WotLK, and a massive number of great-looking weapons in Icecrown Citadel. Thus, this list tries to have some balance, and doesn't just include an overwhelming number of them.

11 Fang Of Oblivion And Starshard Edge

World of Warcraft Fang of Oblivion dagger

These two daggers look exactly the same and drop in the best WoTLK raid, Ulduar — though each drops from different bosses in the raid. Fang of Oblivion can drop from the Assembly of Iron, Starshard Edge can drop from Mimiron, and both daggers can drop from Algalon the Observer.

These daggers are literally constellations and look absolutely stunning, even if they’re generally smaller than other weapons due to them being daggers. Their visual effects are quite subtle too, being light that flows between the lines that connect the stars within the dagger. Either way, it feels like you’re holding stars in your hand, which is awesome.

10 Bloodsurge, Kel’Thuzad’s Blade Of Agony

World of Warcraft Bloodsurge, Kel’Thuzad’s Blade Of Agony sword

A great one-handed sword, Bloodsurge, Kel’Thuzad’s Blade of Agony drops off the Lich King himself in 25-man Normal and Heroic difficulties. It takes on a light blue color in its 25-man Normal form and a pink color in its Heroic form.

While this isn’t the biggest one-handed sword in WotLK, it certainly looks magnificent with its visual effects and blade-etchings. The skull design on the hilt is the cherry on top.

9 Burnished And Gleaming Quel’Serrar

World of Warcraft Gleaming Quelserrar

Both Quel’Serrar swords are one-handed, look exactly the same, and drop from Onyxia’s Lair (Gleaming on 10-man and Burnished on 25-man). They are chic, shiny, and pretty large for one-handed weapons.

The best parts about these swords are the runes written down the center of the blades, and the subtle glowing green effect across them. All in all, they aren't the most complex design, but simplicity reigns supreme here for sure.

8 Val'anyr, Hammer Of Ancient Kings

World of Warcraft Valanyr hammer of ancient kings

As you’d probably expect, the staple legendary mace from Ulduar, Val’anyr, is on this list, taking the spot of best-looking mace in WotLK. Its aesthetic screams titans, which makes sense considering the raid it's in, and it looks fantastic. The glowing effects, plus its colors, really make it pop.

You need to collect 30 Fragments of Val’anyr by killing bosses in Ulduar, then put them together into Shattered Fragments of Val’anyr to receive the quest that will set you on the path toward reforging this great weapon. It’s totally worth it.

7 Kel’Thuzad’s Reach

World of Warcraft Ke'thuzad's reach fist weapon

As far as fist weapons go, WotLK doesn’t offer too much in terms of style, but Kel’Thuzad’s Reach is a whole other story.

This fist weapon can be looted off the corpse of one of the best WoW villains, Kel’Thuzad himself, in Naxxramas 10-man. It's an amazing-looking hook with a slight glowy chill effect.

6 Crypt Fiend Slayer

World of Warcraft Crypt fiend slayer bow

Crypt Fiend Slayer is a bow, and the best-looking ranged weapon in WotLK. That said, most of the guns don’t look too great (except maybe Envoy of Mortality), but some of the crossbows and other bows do give this choice a run for its money.

Crypt Fiend Slayer’s blue aesthetic and visual effects are hard to top, giving it a bit of a hybrid feel. It has design elements of both Domination magic (think Helm of Domination and Frostmourne) as well as Arcane magic, the likes seen in the Nexus with Malygos.

5 Tower Of The Mouldering Corpse

World of Warcraft Tower of the mouldering corpse staff

This staff drops off of Devourer of Souls in Forge of Souls, on both Normal and Heroic difficulties.

While it’s not that flashy of a weapon, it is remarkably elegant and has some killer visual effects between the reddish-orange glow on both ends and the moving headpiece.

4 Shadowmourne

World of Warcraft Shadowmourne

Shadowmourne is as close as you can get to wielding Frostmourne itself, and is acquired after a very lengthy legendary quest chain in Icecrown Citadel. It has the small horned skull on its blade that Frostmourne has on its hilt, and some super cool runes across the edges of the blades.

While this weapon may not be the flashiest of them all, its simplicity and relationship to the legendary Frostmourne warrant it a place as one of the best-looking weapons in the game — especially if you can runeforge it as a Death Knight.

3 Hailstorm

World of Warcraft Hailstorm

Hailstorm drops from Malygos in Eye of Eternity 10-man and is a super flashy one-handed sword. Its bright white and light blue colors make it dazzling, along with the visual effect running through the center of the sword to top off the eye-catching look.

Plus, for a one-handed weapon, it’s quite big, which is nice.

2 Black Ice

World of Warcraft Black ice polearm

Black Ice is another drop from Malygos in Eye of Eternity 10-man, and is hands down the best-looking polearm in the game.

It looks sleek between its dark coloring and light visual effects, and it's just a big weapon (with awesome visual effects) that is easily seen — even when sheathed to your back.

1 Quel’Delar (All Four Of Them)

World of Warcraft Quel'Delar sword

All four Quel’Delar swords look the same (two are one-handed, two are two-handed), are runeblades, and epitomize the WotLK aesthetic. They are extremely reminiscent of Frostmourne, and the runes clearly etched down the center of the blade are super sweet.

You get to choose one of the four options at the end of a very lengthy quest chain that begins after looting the Battered Hilt. This can drop from heroic mobs within Forge of Souls, Pit of Saron, and Halls of Reflection, so get grinding!
