World of Warcraft Classic has released two expansions, revisiting some of the game's most popular content. The Burning Crusade gave each faction a new race, new content for new and maxed-out characters, and raised the level cap. Now World of Warcraft: Classic is returning to Northrend, the continent that hosts the Lich King and his undead minions. You have to be dressed right to endure the chill of Northrend while making a dent in those dungeon mobs, and nobody knows that better than the Tailors of Azeroth.

Tailors should level their skills not only for fun and profit but also for their own benefit. This guide will help get you there quickly. The Wrath of the Lich King expansion raised the level caps for all Professions, and Tailoring provides some of those precious pre-raid Best-in-Slot pieces so it gets a lot of attention. For those spellcasters hoping to run raids, you pretty much have to be a Tailor.

The Joys Of Tailoring

  • The Magic Carpet: What more needs to be said? There's a magic carpet that you can learn in The Burning Crusade, but that's not an epic-level, extra-fast mount like the Magnificent Flying Carpet — which comes complete with shapeshifting abilities, a Disney reference, and a comfy pillow.
  • Best-In-Slot Items: You're likely a Tailor if you're one of the cloth-wearing DPS classes, which means you'll be able to make some of your BiS pre-raid pieces without slogging through dungeons or battlegrounds. The Wintry Hate of Doom and the Ebonshroud Robe are just two examples.
  • Other Professions: First Aid is one of the primary Professions that every character knows. Tailors have an advantage when it comes to leveling First Aid since they have to stockpile cloth anyway — the main component for making bandages.

Farming Cloth In Old Azeroth

Unlike other professions that require a gathering skill, like alchemy and Herbalism or Jewelcrafting and Mining, the cloth resources required for Tailoring have a chance to drop off any humanoid mob, and that includes the undead and half-human critters like harpies and centaurs. Tailors have a free professional slot for something else, which is why Tailors are often Enchanters, another profession that doesn't require collecting resources from drops or collecting.

  • Linen. Early dungeons are a great place to start. The Stockade, Deadmines, Ragefire Chasm, and Wailing Caverns have plenty of humanoid enemies.
  • Wool. The Scarlet Monastery, easily accessible to both factions, is a place to find almost all of the cloth at this point in the game. Wool is the most plentiful, however. Shadowfang Keep is another option.
  • Silk. The Centaurs and demon-worshippers of Desolace and Felwood drop wool and silk. Also the Scalet Monastery, especially the Cathedral.
  • Mageweave. The ogres of Feralas drop plenty of cloth, both in the open world and within the extensive instance of Dire Maul in the same zone.
  • Runecloth. Find this in high-level dungeons such as Scholomance and Stratholme. The Western Plaguelands, filled with undead and humans, is another option.

Tailoring Trainers

Horde

  • Magar. He has his tailoring shop in The Drag in Orgrimmar.
  • Victor Ward. Find him in Undercity, on the inside circle of the Mage Quarter.
  • Vhan. The Tailoring trainers in Thunder Bluff are in the building as the Leatherworking trainers. They're in a big building on the edge of the Middle Rise.
  • Kil'hala. He can be found at the Crossroads in the Barrens, in the southern part of town.
  • Bowen Brisboise. There's a little farmhouse in Tirisfal Glades next to a covered bridge. Bowen is standing inside, and he'll also sell you trade supplies.
  • Keelen Sheets. Find this Blood Elf with the punny name in Silvermoon City on the north end of the Bazaar.

Alliance

  • Uthrar Threx. Look for his tailoring shop in Ironforge, on the north side of the Great Forge.
  • Grondal Moonbreeze. He's in Auberdine, the small city in Darkshore with the big dock.
  • Lawrence Schneider. The Tailor of Stormwind City would have to be in the Mage Quarter. His shop is in the southwestern corner.
  • Trianna. She's in Craftman's Terrace, in the second shop on the right coming from Warrior's Terrace in Darnassus.
  • Eldrin. Follow the road east from Goldshire until you cross a small bridge. He has a humble cottage on the north side of the road in Elwynn Forest.
  • Refik. In Trader's Tier in The Exodar, to the south of the Seat of the Naaru.

Neutral

  • Grarnik Goodstitch. She's in Booty Bay, Stranglethorn Vale, with the other tradesfolk on the upper levels on the east side of town.
  • Meilosh. Look under the arc in the central room of Timbermaw Hold, which stretches between Felwood, Moonglade, and Winterspring. You need to have neutral standing with the Timbermaw faction to speak with him.

Levels 1 to 300

You can vary the following steps depending on whether or not your character needs to make certain pieces of gear, but this is one of the most efficient ways to max your old-world tailoring up to 300.

  • Apprentice, up to 75. Make enough Bolts of Linen Cloth to get to 50. Train in Journeyman and learn some new recipes.
  • Journeyman, up to 150. Use those Bolts of Linen Cloth to make 20 Linen Bags, enough to get to 70. Now you can train in recipes using Wool, including Bolts of Wool Cloth. These can take you to 105, and any combination of the Grey Woolen Shirt or Double-stitched Woolen Shoulders can get you to 125. Train to make Bolts of Silk Cloth and grind up to 150.
  • Expert, up to 225. Make any combination of the Azure Silk Hood, Formal White Shirt, or Silk Headband to get up to 175. Train to make the Bolt of Mageweave and the Crimson Silk Vest, and use these recipes to reach at least 200.
  • Artisan, up to 300. Any combination of recipes using Black Mageweave, Leggings, Gloves, or Headband, will raise your level to 250. You can now learn to make a Bolt of Runecloth. Make Runecloth Bolts, Belts, and Bags to max your Tailoring skill out to 300. You are now ready to train in Outland.

Artisan Tailoring, 225 to 300

Once you reach at least level 200 in Tailoring, there's only one trainer that can teach you any recipes. This is different depending on the faction, and other trainers will direct you to them after they run out of recipes.

  • Timothy Worthington. Alliance players can find him on Theramore Isle in Dustwallow March. There's a flight plan and a ship that will take you there if you don't feel like running through a swamp.
  • Daryl Stack. He's standing outside the chapel in Tarren Mill, the Horde town in the Hillsbrad Foothills.

Tailoring In Outland

the-shattered-halls hellfire penninsula outland wow

At the Mastery Level, you have to choose from one of three Tailoring Specializations. This requires visiting a certain NPC in the lower city of Shattrath and deciding on either Mooncloth, Spellfire, or Shadoweave. Each one requires a different quest to finish, and although your character can only know one at a time, the choice isn't permanent and you can change your mind later.

All of the trainers for these skills are standing by the Mana Loom in Shattrath, which is needed to make bolts of Imbued Netherweave.

Outland Trainers

  • Dalinna. She's in the tavern in Thrallmar, standing by the Jewelcrafting trainer.
  • Hama. Upstairs in the Alliance outpost of Honor Hold, southeast of Hellfire Citadel.
  • Andrion Darkspinner. The Shadoweave trainer in Shattrath's Lower City. He's the pouty human in the dark robe.
  • Gidge Spellweaver. The Spellfire Tailor in Shattrath, she's the gnome standing next to the Mana Loom.
  • Nasmara Moonsong. The Mooncloth Tailor, she's the Night Elf standing next to the entrance of her tent.

Farming Netherweave

The dungeons located in Hellfire Citadel are populated by Orcs, and they drop decent amounts of cloth, so this is one of the best places to farm Netherweave, and you need to run this dungeon anyway for the reputation grind and gear upgrades. Coilfang Reservoir is another option, with plenty of Naga and Broken dropping cloth as well.

For those grinding rep with the Shattered Sun Offensive, any quests that involve killing undead or Blood Elves will also yield netherweave.

Outland Leveling Guide, Levels 300 to 375

  • Making Bolts of Netherweave will grind your level to 325. Arcane Dust, an enchanting resource, is needed to make these into Bolts of Imbued Netherweave. This raises your skill level to 340.
  • Any combination of the Netherweave Robe and the Netherweave Tunic can raise your level to 360. Now you can learn to make the Imbued Netherweave Robe. Make as many of these as needed to raise your level to at least 350, but you can go to 375 if you have the materials.

Northrend Trainers

Before you go to Northrend, it's best to make sure your Tailoring skill is at least 350. The professionals you'll meet in this new environment can only train you past this level.

Horde

  • Alexandra McQueen: In Vengeance Landing on the east coast of Howling Fjord. Accessible via zeppelin from Tirisfal Glades.
  • Raenah: On the main floor of Warsong Hold in the Borean Tundra. Take a zeppelin from the tower outside of the front gates of Orgrimmar.

Alliance

  • Benjamin Clegg: In the city of Valgarde, nestled in the natural part that cuts through Howling Fjord. The boat from Menethil Harbor docks here.
  • Darin Goodstitch: Find them in Valiance Keep, off the southern coast of the Borean Tundra. Take a boat from Stormwind Harbor.

Neutral

  • Charles Worth. He stands next to the counter in Talismanic Textiles, the tailor's shop located in the Magus Commerce Exchange.

Farming Frostweave

  • Enemy Drops: If you're hoping for drops in the open world, you should target any kind of humanoid character first. This makes Howling Fjord a better place to start, since most of the enemies on this part of the continent are humanoid.
  • Dungeons: Frostweave can be found in any instance, but priority should be given to those that feature humanoid enemies. Utgarde Keep, with its Vykrul, and the Troll temple of Zul'Drak are two examples.
  • Reinforced Crates: One of the many things you can retrieve from the depths through Fishing, they appear randomly in a variety of fishing nodes. They can contain a variety of raw resources, such as Borean Leather, Cobalt Ore, or Frostweave cloth.
  • Chests and Lockboxes. Whether they appear in the open world as something you can open and loot, or as a locked item in your inventory that you need a Rogue to open, there's a chance they might carry Frostweave.

Northrend Leveling Guide, 350 to 450

interior dalaran tailor northrend classic wow wotlk

Frostweave

The new cloth on the loom is Frostweave, an item only found in Northrend and only for characters from level 70 and up. The first step in leveling Tailoring is to gather 250 pieces of Frostweave Cloth to level your skill from 350 to 375, and make 50 Bolts of Frostweave in the process.

Once you reach 375, talk to your Trainer about the Frostweave set. Make key parts of this set to grind up to 395. One possible combination is five Belts, five pairs of Boots, and thirteen Cowls. By now you can ask to be trained in the Duskweave set, and five Duskweave Belts should get you to 400.

Imbued Frostweave

At level 400, you can train to make Imbued Frostweave. This is the main component of the high-level Northrend Tailoring recipes. To make it, you need Bolts of Frostweave and Infinite Dust, an Enchanting reagent. If you're not an Enchanter, buy it from the Auction House, ask a friend, or raid the guild bank.

By now you should have trained for a few higher-level recipes. Make parts of the Duskweave set to get from 400 to 425, which takes five Belts, five pairs of Boots, and thirteen Cowls. Now you can make Frostweave Bags. Everyone needs more storage space, so these are easy to sell if you can't use all of them yourself. You need to make about 20 to reach the max skill level of 450.
