World of Warcraft Classic servers are so jammed with players that they’re all lining up in order to finish quests.
Blizzard never expected the power of nostalgia to be this strong. Servers have been flooded by players looking to get a piece of that 2004 feeling ever since Blizzard released WoW Classic last weekend, with many players complaining they have to wait for minutes at a time just to log in.
The wait doesn’t end after finally being able to re-enter the realm of Azeroth circa 2004. With so many players stuffing WoW Classic’s limited servers and all starting over from square one, everyone has to go through the same quests at roughly the same time. This is causing problems for time-limited spawns as there are now more players than monsters to slay.
However, WoW Classic players have developed a novel solution to the problem by forming an orderly line.
That’s right: instead of a mad mob trying to kill one unfortunate goblin, everyone is politely taking turns and queuing up to complete their quests. Social media has been filled with players taking bizarre snapshots of well-ordered players forming lines like WoW Classic is some sort of online amusement park rather than an MMO.
So what gives? It’s all a matter of server space. Blizzard simply didn’t expect so many players to come charging through the gates all at once. That said, Blizzard is aware of both the login queue issue and the in-game quest completion queue issue and is working to fix the problem.
A recent update on the WoW developer Twitter reveals that Blizzard is releasing hotfixes that should “substantially increase the number of players that can be simultaneously logged in and playing.” This should lower the wait time both in and out of game.
In the meantime, players can enjoy waiting in line to pick up potions, scalp beasts, and do any number of other things that can only be performed one at a time back in the early days of World of Warcraft. Nostalgia isn’t without its cost, it seems.
