Wreckfest is a hard-hitting and violent racing game for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. It's a demolition derby-like game where players are encouraged to try and destroy one another's vehicles by slamming them, steering them into debris, or grinding against their car. It was developed by Bugbear Entertainment and published by THQ Nordic, and there are plans to port Wreckfest to next-gen consoles.

As is the case with most games with a lively PC player base, mods are in abundance. Players are always looking to tailor their experience to the tastes of themselves and their friends. Wreckfest has plenty of mods but which ones rank as the best? All mods can be found on the Steam Workshop.

Updated on June 13, 2022 by Josh Davison: The world of racing games is vast and diverse. From goofy kart-driving games like Mario Kart 8 to more realistic racing sims like Gran Turismo Sport and rFactor 2, there is a wide range of games from which to choose. Wreckfest exists somewhere in the middle, in the realm of Forza, with a responsive yet streamlined control scheme intended to give the player a fun and approachable racing experience. However, Wreckfest chooses down-and-dirty stylized mayhem over Forza's glitz and glamor, and that continues to attract a devoted fanbase intent on modding Wreckfest into their ideal racing simulator.

15 Stallion Adds A New And Sleek Car For Your Collection

Wreckfest Stallion Mod Cropped

The Stallion Wreckfest Mod comes from user Noodle, with credits given to bergaan and Codemasters, in the Steam Workshop. It's a fairly straightforward car addition, adding the Stallion — a sleek Le Mans car fully capable of challenging anything else that Wreckfest has to offer in its vanilla state. Adding just the car would honestly be enough already for this mod, but Noodle didn't stop there.

The Stallion also comes with different colors, liveries, and tires to choose from. It's not only a new car that looks incredible, it's also a new car that is fully customizable. This one is well worth checking out, and it's a fairly new addition so there's a higher chance of updates and fixes should anything go awry.

14 Varied AI And Sets Changes Your Opponents' Behavior

Wreckfest Varied AI Mod Cropped

The Varied AI and Sets Mod by Dash My Buttons seeks to add new types of drivers to the roads of Wreckfest. This Wreckfest mod adds new potential AI behaviors to the game's drivers, and it adds a new series of challenges to keep devoted Wreckfest players on their toes. There are over 30 new AI behaviors as of the mod's last update, and they cover a wide range of potential driver behaviors. There are also AI behavior sets that can be implemented.

This is actually the second version of this mod from Dash My Buttons, as it is intended to cover the DLCs for Wreckfest as well. It has been almost two years since this mod was last updated, so it's uncertain if any further updates or patches will come from the designer.

13 Angry Drivers Adds A New Dimension Of Challenge

Angry Drivers Wreckfest Mod Screenshot Cropped

The Angry Drivers mod makes it so that every other driver is aggressive, destructive, and wants to create as many collisions as possible. This one comes from Steam modder Vin Petrol.

Many Wreckfest mods like to mess with the car designs and the physics engine, but this one decides to tweak the AI of the other drivers on the racetrack. They become roving agents of destruction and mayhem intending to slam into you and total your vehicle.

12 Bring The Carnage Amps Up The Mayhem With Zombies

Bring the Carnage Wreckfest Mod Cropped

This mod is a relatively new addition that returns zombies to the Carmageddon tracks added to Wreckfest. Developer Bugbear opted to remove the zombies and civilians from these tracks, but the Bring the Carnage mod by STRmods allows players to reintroduce them into the Carmageddon races.

Bugbear likely didn't want to make Wreckfest a bloody and gory experience, even with Carmageddon tracks in the game. However, there are thankfully Wreckfest mods that introduce a different vision to the game.

11 The Mystery Machine From Scooby-Doo Adds The Spooky

Scooby Doo Mystery Machine Wreckfest Mod Cropped

This mod is fairly self-explanatory, and it doesn't add as much content as some other Wreckfest mods. Regardless, it's still a must-have, as the Mystery Machine from Scooby-Doo needs to be in Wreckfest.

This mod comes from user #NIKSTOUN. It allows the player to drive the Mystery Machine through the chaotic races of Wreckfest, and that is a very worthwhile download if there has ever been one.

10 External Camera Mod Gives The Player A New Perspective

External Camera Wreckfest Mod Comparison Cropped

The first of the Wreckfest mods come from Workshop user SteelWalker and is an alteration to the UI for Wreckfest. It changes the angle of the external camera for the car so that the player can get a better view of the track.

Mods like this seem uninteresting on the surface, but they can be vital for players who get frustrated with the basic display of the game. The external camera view for Wreckfest can feel very restrictive, so this is an excellent and much-appreciated mod for Wreckfest regulars.

9 Ejection! Allows The Driver To Go Airborne

Ejection Wreckfest Mod Cropped

Next up is the Ejection! mod by user SRV. This mod makes it so drivers shoot out of their car and ragdoll when they are knocked out of the race. It's just a downright funny mod to watch in action and adds more character to the Wreckfest races.

This mod applies to the player cars as well as the AI cars. However, it hasn't been updated for DLC vehicles, so they don't get to experience ejection excellence.

8 Pinball Mode Makes For Some Enjoyable Chaos

Pinball Mode Wreckfest Mod launching cars Cropped

This mod, by user Vin Petrol, is another comical upgrade to the Wreckfest formula. The Pinball Mode mod makes it so that the collision matrix is ratcheted up to extremes, and cars begin to repel one another on the track. It also ups the health of each vehicle so they can enjoy the ensuing madness.

Now cars will collide and slide across the racing course with reckless abandon all for the players' benefit.

7 Nascar Legends Online Is A Wreckfest League All Its Own

This is another mod from user Vin Petrol. It was actually what this user was trying to make when they discovered the effects that would make the Pinball Mode mod. This mod is intended to make Wreckfest races feel more like classic Nascar. It makes the racing more realistic and adds the "Oldsmobile Cutlass" car that can be customized to resemble any number of Nascar vehicles.

There are also dedicated servers for the Nascar Legends races that are listed on the mod's description page.

6 A.S.S.R Makes Wreckfest Into A Stockcar Race

Yet another Vin Petrol mod and TestTestTest, A.S.S.R. aims to recreate American Street Stock Racing in the world of Wreckfest. Like the Nascar Legends mod, it alters the physics and adds new cars and car skins to complete the conversion to stock car racing. It also made other alterations to the aesthetics of the game to really make it look like a proper stock race.

Complete gameplay overhauls are no small feat, and it never ceases to impress how much the modding community will do to curate customized experiences for players in a game like this.

5 Online Bangers: Wreckfest Is Another Online Wreckfest League

This mod is still a work-in-progress, but it's intended to convert Wreckfest races to resemble the UK Banger racing scene. It adds several different car styles, alters the damage appearance, and customizes the physics to all make the experience feel more like Banger racing.

This one also has its own server and Discord chat so that players can coordinate online Banger races in Wreckfest. This mod comes from user Sam223.

4 Pritchard's Weather Mod Provides Gorgeous Weather Effects

Pritchard's Weather Mod Wreckfest Screenshot Cropped

This mod by the titular Pritchard is more of an aesthetic upgrade as opposed to a complete gameplay overhaul. While Wreckfest already has an assortment of weather effects in the game, Pritchard's Weather Mod adds even more varieties of weather and times of day that the race can take place under.

Sometimes relatively little changes like this can make a big difference for players, and it can help them become even more immersed in the world of the game.

3 Pritchard's Contact Effects Mod Adds To The Visual Flare

Another Pritchard mod, this one upgrades the collision effects of Wreckfest. Sparks and debris can be seen flying off cars when they've been hit or ground against.

In addition, the mod increases the amount of time that pieces of a car can be seen on the track, ensuring that the player will be able to see the effects of damage after several laps.

2 Cars Movie Skin Pack Allows Players To Win With A Ka-Chow!

Cars Movie Skin Mod Wreckfest Lightning McQueen Cropped

This is another aesthetic pack, this time adding several new skins to the cars of Wreckfest. The skins they add are of...well, cars from the movie Cars. This mod comes from user Harry BSc.

So far, it includes the skins for Lightning McQueen, Chick Hicks, Doc Hudson, Strip "The King" Weathers, and Sally Carrera, though the modder has more planned. This is a cute and entertaining mod that brings a little bit of Pixar to Wreckfest.

1 Rainbow Road 64 Brings Some Mario-Flavored Nostalgia And Difficulty

Rainbow Road 64 Wreckfest Mod Screenshot Cropped

This mod adds a whole new racetrack to Wreckfest, this one coming from the beloved Mario Kart 64 on the Nintendo 64. The layout is a direct port from the original racetrack in Mario Kart 64, though there have been some alterations to make it better suited for Wreckfest.

This mod comes from Workshop user Devbot and really shows a love of both Wreckfest and Mario Kart that is downright admirable.
