Wurm Online, which bills itself as the ultimate sandbox MMORPG, is finally making its way to Steam fourteen years after its official launch. Developer and publisher Code Club AB is currently polishing multiple game aspects in preparation, including UI improvements, lighting and visual updates, bug smooshing, and even a new game trailer.

According to the press release, Code Club AB has been hard at work for the past eight months getting the game ready for this monumental task. Included with fixes to volumetric lighting comes the addition of day and night skies, realistic light filters through forests, better object illuminations in the morning light, and improved stars and starlight in the night sky. All these new augments and improvements are designed to make Wurm Online come to life and look better than it ever has.

The UI is also currently being enhanced, and within the next few weeks, the devs will be launching a new preview client that will showcase the new UI improvements. The preview client will be available to current players, allowing them to help the devs refine the UI prior to the Steam launch.

According to the official announcement on the Wurm Online forum by Community Relations Coordinator ‘Retrograde’, the devs are also working on getting a new trailer, but no details are given on what may be expected in it. To celebrate the Steam launch, there will be “a bonus skill event during the release that will be running on all Wurm Online servers.” Again, no further details are given yet, but with the launch date just over a month away, we probably don’t have long to wait until they are.

In fact, there is already a growing list of details being given out on the Steam Launch FAQ forum post, also by 'Retrograde'. Specifics regarding the incoming new Steam servers, the skilling system, skill rates, purchasing premium time, and more can be found there. One important item of note is that the devs say the PvE server will launch before the PvP server, so they have time to work out any PvE kinks before taking on those on the PvE server. And, just as the current standalone Wurm Online client, the Steam version will be available at the exceptional price of free. Be sure to stay tuned to this forum post for more critical info as it gets released.

The Wurm Online Steam page is already live, so you can add it to your Wish list now, and Follow the game to be notified of further updates. Of course, if you’d like to try out the game ahead of time, you can download it now from the official website.
