Wrestling games let you pit your favorites together to rewrite history or simply see who would come out on top. In WWE 2K23, you have a massive roster of impressive superstars at your disposal. In the right hands, any of them can be a winner, but not all of them can be the highest rated of the bunch.

The unfortunate truth is that some of the best wrestlers in the entire WWE will be rated much lower than you and the rest of the WWE Universe feel they should be. One bad year shouldn't tank their overall number. Their accolades throughout their whole career are more than enough to argue for a higher rating.

8 Shelton Benjamin

Shelton Benjamin smiles as he makes his way down the entrance ramp in WWE 2K23.

Shelton Benjamin is the definition of a workhouse. This is a wrestler who puts on incredible matches with anyone he squares off against. He may be near the tail end of his career, but his 79 overall rating in WWE 2K23 is absurd.

We're talking about a 3x Intercontinental Champion, 3x Tag Team Champion, and former United States Champion. With over two decades of wrestling under his belt, he's seen and done it all except for a coveted World Championship. Anything less than the mid-80s is an unacceptable rating for this former NCAA amateur standout.

7 Dolph Ziggler

Dolph Ziggler stands in the corner of the ring, ready to wrestle in WWE 2K23.

Dolph Ziggler will always be underrated. He is arguably one of the best wrestlers the WWE has seen this century, and he can back that claim up in the ring. It seems as though the WWE brass has moved on from his superstar days and instead have him booked as the test. This means anyone they feel is a rising star will need to face Ziggler at some point to prove they have what it takes, because it's rare he puts on a bad match.

An 83 is a bit low for the "Showoff." With two World Heavyweight Champion reigns under his belt, that should be enough to give him the boost to the high 80s for eternity. That's not to mention his multiple other title reigns and his Money In The Bank victory in 2012. There is no reason Dolph Ziggler isn't a top ten overall male wrestler in WWE 2K23.

6 Montez Ford

Montez Ford dances on his way to the ring in WWE 2K23.

Montez Ford has quickly become the shining star of the Street Profits. His tag partner is no slouch, but it is clear that Ford has a bright future ahead of him. Not only has he been an outstanding tag team competitor with multiple championship victories, but he has also held his own in a variety of singles matches.

A low 82 is the overall rating he received in WWE 2K23 on launch. Yes, there are some superstars that would love to have that rating. Montez Ford deserves just a bit more, however. He's proven to be a force in the ring and one of the most entertaining superstars in recent times. He's got the goods and his rating should reflect that.

5 Carmella

Carmella raises her arms to pose at the top of the entrance ramp in WWE 2K23.

Carmella has been on a roll since her main roster debut in 2016. Long past are the times of her simply backing up Big Cass and Enzo Amore. She found her spot as a singles star and has been to the top, quite literally.

The Princess of Staten Island won the very first women's Money In The Bank Ladder match and successfully cashed it in for her first Women's Championship. Add onto that a tag title run and she's done enough to move ahead of a 79 overall in WWE 2K23. She didn't miss a beat after returning from injury in early 2023. Her versatility and achievements in the ring need more recognition in the game.

4 John Cena '03

John Cena '03 scowls at the camera during his entrance in WWE 2K23.

John Cena is the cover wrestler for WWE 2K23. He is the focus of a Showcase mode, which sees his greatest defeats in WWE history and explains how he overcame them to maintain his star power. Because of his inclusion in this mode, there are several playable iterations of him across his career. One of those is his character from 2003.

This is when John Cena debuted the Doctor of Thuganomics gimmick, where he rapped insults at his opponents before beating them down in the ring. In 2003, he earned upset victories over some of the top wrestlers, such as Eddie Guerrero and The Undertaker. Eventually, he battled Brock Lesnar in a losing effort for the WWE Championship, but he was now a household name. The fact that John Cena '03 in WWE 2K23 is only an 82 overall is a bit of an outrage.

3 Finn Balor

Finn Balor stands in the ring and awaits his opponent in WWE 2K23.

Finn Balor has had an on-and-off career in the WWE. The Irishman, a former phenom in Japanese wrestler, came to WWE with all the hype in the world. In WWE 2K23, he has a respectable 87 overall rating, though he has proven to be the best of the best at one point.

He became the quickest superstar to win a world championship from their debut, with 27 days leading up to becoming the inaugural WWE Universal Champion. An injury derailed that immediately and his time in the company has never been the same. He's still kept his spot near the peak of the men's division, and it is a shame that he hasn't won another world championship despite being more than capable.

2 Sami Zayn

Sami Zayn works the crowd from the top rope in WWE 2K23.

The Bloodline storyline from 2022 to 2023 took Sami Zayn from a sheer fan favorite to the hottest thing in all of professional wrestling. His WWE 2K23 rating is 84, lower than many wrestlers that don't deserve it as much as Sami. The crowd erupts whenever he walks through the curtain on his way to the ring.

He hasn't captured a world title in WWE yet, but that day will surely come. It is only a matter of time before the 3x Intercontinental Champion is the face of WWE. His work leading up to the launch of WWE 2K23 is unrivaled. He's always been the underdog, so he's probably proud of the 84 rating, no matter how much higher it should be.

1 Asuka

Asuka, wearing her entrance gear, swings her arm in her signature dance as she walks to the ring in WWE 2K23.

It's strange to think Asuka is underrated when she comes in at a commendable 89 overall. The fact of the matter is she should definitely be a 90 or above. Asuka has been a mainstay of the WWE women's division for years and continues to prove she's one of the best. Every appearance is must-watch television.

Asuka is the first woman in WWE history to win a Royal Rumble, Money In The Bank, and Elimination Chamber match. With multiple titles reigns in her rearview, there's bound to be many more to add her to resume in the future. Her spot as one of the best women in WWE history is cemented, and she very well may find herself atop an overall list, men and women included.
