The world of farming simulators is ever-growing, as there are more and more games being added to this genre. Wylde Flowers is a story-rich game where the developers have ensured that you have a cozy, therapeutic experience throughout the entire playtime.

From the start, you play as Tara, and you get out of the boat, meeting the people of Fairhaven Town after a long time. You've returned to the town because your grandmother, Hazel, isn't doing so well. During your stay, you learn various new things about yourself.

Every Shop Has A Different Schedule

When it comes to farming simulators, one of the most annoying aspects that make the game less cozy is to remember every shop's schedule. Some shops tend to close earlier than usual, while some owners choose one of the weekdays as their off day.

Developers of Wylde Flowers have made sure this doesn't affect their player base. Every shop has a little board outside that has their entire week's schedule written on it. This way, you can easily decide what part of the game you want to prioritize.

You can't enter houses other than your own at the beginning of this game, which means that the only time you can interact with other town members is when they're at their shop, or if they're walking around. You can use this schedule to have a guaranteed time to talk to them.

The Handbook Can Be Very Useful

Wylde Flowers Handbook

It's very common for games like Wylde Flowers to have a handbook for their players. Unlike other games, you will already have this book unlocked from the very start. You can click on its icon at the top-right part of your screen to access it, or press the key shown below it if you're playing on a Keyboard or Controller.

The journal can be a very handy tool, and here's everything it tells you:

  • In the first tab, it will mention all the quests you currently have. For each quest, there will be an option to show a hint which will tell you what you're supposed to do, in case you forgot. It will also have an exclamation mark if you progress in any quest.
  • The second tab will display the names of all the people you've met in town and the cat! This will also mention the amount of hearts you have on each of them, and these can be increased through various methods.
  • The third tab which will be unlocked automatically at the start will be the Crafting tab. As you can tell, this will label every crafting item you've discovered, and what it takes to create them. This can come in handy since you can access the journal anywhere and find out what you're missing.
  • Later on, more tabs like Cooking and Fishing will unlock in the journal, where you'll be able to keep an eye on your recipes and the fishes. This is great to find out the required ingredients, or to capture every fish if you're a completionist.

The only issue with the journal currently is that it doesn't display the amount of energy you can restore from any recipe. While you can see this if you have the food item in your inventory, it would be a blessing to be able to see it before you cook it.

You Can Jump Over Fences

Wylde Flowers - a character jumping a fence between houses

There must have been so many times when you have to enter places right beside each other, but there's a long fence between them, and it gets frustrating to go all the way around. Luckily, this issue has been partially fixed for this game in quite a funny manner.

Whenever you run directly at one of the small white fences, Tara will jump directly over it with a funny animation. While this isn't really logical and might be a little immersion-breaking, the amount of time it saves makes it worth it. In case you're not willing to do this, you can still go all the way around.

Bulletin Requests Are Unlocked From Start

Wylde Flowers Bulletin Requests

As mentioned above, the game assumes that its players know the basics of farming simulators. This is a good thing to an extent, but sometimes it might assume too much. There is a bulletin board that is already placed in Fairhaven Town, but the game doesn't tell you about it.

You'll be able to find this board on the left side of the mayor's building in the middle of the town. Luckily, you don't have to complete the request you acquire from the board on the same day, and they'll stay for quite a few days.

There Are A Lot Of Quality Of Life Options

Wylde Flowers Game Options

The game takes the cozy aspect of a farming simulator to the next level. Any time during your run, you can simply press the pause button near the day HUD on top-left and access some quality-of-life settings to make your game easier and the experience better.

The main option here will be the Day Speed. In this setting, you will have three speeds at which your day passes. If you don't have much to do, you can make it faster. And if you're planning to do a lot on that day, you can have it more Relaxed.

Other than that, there are also some options to make Fishing easier. This mechanic is already pretty easy, so you might not even notice the difference after turning the setting on unless you're looking to fish a certain rare fish.

There's No Limit To Your Inventory

You must have played many games that claim to be cozy, but the limitation of the inventory in these games can make it very stressful and annoying. Thankfully, it's not the same for Wylde Flowers as there is no visible inventory limit here.

This feature truly makes the game laid back, and all you have to worry about is the management of your energy.

You will have very less energy at the beginning of the game, and if you don't have enough food items to regenerate plenty of it, the decision to spend your energy on a certain task becomes very important.

The Dialogues Are Pretty Fast

While this might not be a problem for most, it can catch you off guard in the beginning. Usually, the games with voice acting have slow dialogues, and there is a little gap after every dialogue. Neither of these is true for Wylde Flowers, which can also ruin the immersion.

When there is a big cutscene with a lot of dialogue, this issue is way more noticeable. The dialogue is paused if you happen to remove the game from your screen for any reason. Furthermore, the game automatically saves, which means that it'll start at the very point you left off, instead of starting you at the beginning of the day.

You Can Pet The Cat

This final tip already makes the game better than any other competitor out there. There is a Strange Cat out and about in Fairhaven Town, and you can pet it whenever you get close to it by clicking the option that will appear on top of the animal.

When you pet the cat for the first time, it will increase your closeness with it, which will be symbolized by the heart meter increasing at the end of the animation. While you can pet it an unlimited amount of times every day, this won't have any effect on the hearts and is purely there to warm your real-life heart.
