Malifaux was released at GenCon in 2009 and remains one of the more popular tabletop skirmish games to this day. It is set in an alternative history of our earth in 1901 and has a quintessential gothic-horror steampunk theme as a result. The magic of our world was in decline, so much so that the magicians sought a new source of power. After much searching, they discovered a new source of magic in another dimension close to our own. Separated by a thin barrier they set to open a way, connecting the two worlds. in 187 they were successful but at a cost. The city that surrounded their ritual site was destroyed and stole the living energies of the inhabitants to create the bridge they had hoped for. Beyond the veil lies the city of Malifaux.

Gibson DeWalt is the newest member of the Explorer's Society. An inventor with, shall we say, some less desirable friends. He has been called out of retirement to bring his seminal creation, light-bending technology, to the battlefield. Included will be an unpainted 32mm figure of Gibson DeWalt and his stat card. A pre-release card shown on the Wyrd Games blog gives us a peek into DeWalts' abilities. Fitting with his inventor abilities he is able to blind targets through the use of Blinded by the Light. We see another use of his light-bending tech, as he is able to create shadow markers that allow units to use an Anitluminal Bridge to traverse across the battlefield. You can see the full range of his abilities below.

Malifaux is one of those games that you have always wanted to try but never gotten around to. It's an established game that is in its third edition and has a wide range of units and factions to choose from. It makes a refreshing to the dark grim universes found in some other games and the gothic-horror elements feel right at home with their Lovecraftian theme, amidst a Victorian-era steampunk world.
