Until Project Scarlett is officially unveiled nothing is for certain, but it sure is fun to speculate until that point. Here are 5 rumors about Project Scarlett that have fans excited, as well as 5 rumors that are making people worried.

10 Worried: All-Digital Version

Back at E3 2019, Phil Spencer talked about Project Scarlett and how it was their next-gen console that would encompass everything gamers expected in new hardware. This led people to believe that a rumored second all-digital version of the next-gen console was no more and that the so-called alternate SKU titled Lockhart was no more.

Well, as recently as late November 2019 rumors have begun swirling once again about an all-digital next-gen console that would offer a cheaper entry point into next-gen. We'll have to wait and find out.

9 Excited: Complete Game Library At Launch

One of the strongest cases as to why Project Scarlett will have stronger built-in value at launch come next-gen is that on day one players will have access to their entire Xbox library of games.

Thanks to the years of work Xbox has put in, players have access to every generation of Xbox games. Sony has promised that the PlayStation 5 will be backward compatible with the PlayStation 4, but questions about previous generations and how robust it will be at launch are circulating among fans.

8 Worried: $500 Launch Price

Despite Phil Spencer taking the reigns and completely turning the narrative surrounding Xbox back into a very positive space, fans are always worried about history repeating itself. Back in 2013 current Xbox leadership had the gall to release a console that was not only weaker than their direct competition but also $100 more in price.

This was part of the many reasons the Xbox One was dead at arrival and could never catch up to the PlayStation 4. It's highly unlikely that the PS5 and Project Scarlett differ in price, but let's hope they're both under $450.

7 Excited: More Studio Acquisitions

At X019, Xbox's now annual equivalent to Sony's beloved PSX event, it was revealed that Xbox has moved from acquisition to execution when it comes to their stable of studios.

Many people took this as a hard stop for the company when it comes to acquiring game studios, but Matt Booty, head of Xbox Game Studios, clarified that their focus has shifted but that doesn't mean another acquisition couldn't happen. Don't be surprised if another studio joins the Xbox family at their official reveal of Project Scarlett.

6 Worried: Lackluster Launch Lineup

This worry isn't just an issue with Xbox, the launch of new consoles and an entirely new generation of games comes with the trade-off that the launch of the new hardware won't be accompanied by many solid games.

Launch lineups are often joked about for being lackluster and often uninspired. Thankfully for Xbox fans, they know for certain they'll have a new AAA exclusive at launch with Halo: Infinite, but what else will join it? It sure doesn't hurt that your entire library of Xbox games will be available day one via backward compatibility.

5 Excited: Launching At $400

Microsoft understands the mistakes they made with the announcement and launch of the Xbox One in 2013. Phil Spencer has righted the ship for Xbox over recent years and the aggressiveness in which they've shown in both Xbox Game Pass and the game studio acquisitions shows Microsoft wants to be major players and aren't satisfied with 2nd place.

There are rumors floating around that they want to be very aggressive with the launch of Project Scarlett and may sell a more powerful console at a loss in hopes of fortifying that early player base.

4 Worried: Big Exclusives Are Years Away

Video game development isn't easy, and the large AAA high-quality experiences take numerous years to make. Though you should expect the mid-sized projects to show up early and often on Project Scarlett, don't expect to see the big groundbreaking experiences until late 2021 or even early 2022.

This is often the case with every new console launch for all companies involved. Luckily for Xbox fans they already know next-gen will have one new AAA title at launch with the release of Halo: Infinite.

3 Excited: New Exclusives Every 3 Months

In numerous interviews in 2019, the head of Xbox Game Studios Matt Booty has reiterated that the plan is to have a new Xbox Game Studios' title release every 3 months. He feels that this brings constant value to both the consumer and the brand and will help bolster a library of Xbox exclusives that have been severally lacking for a while now.

With their numerous acquisitions over the last couple of years, this plan doesn't seem impossible, but it will only be worth it if the games reach the high-quality benchmark they promise to.

2 Worried: Less Powerful Than The PS5

Leading up to the actual reveals of the next-gen consoles for both PlayStation and Xbox there are going to be varying reports in relation to both new pieces of hardware.

In recent months there have been rumors swirling that Project Scarlett was more powerful than the PlayStation 5, but recently that notion has been flipped on its head. In 2013 Xbox released a console in the Xbox One that was less powerful and yet more expensive than the PlayStation 4, a mistake they can't afford to make in consecutive console launches.

1 Excited: Fable Returns

It seems like the worst hidden secret in the gaming industry currently is the fact that Playground Games is working on a new entry in the Fable series. Xbox has gone as far as to say that the fabled Forza Horizon developers constructed a second team and have been working on an open-world role-playing game, but has never mentioned what franchise it takes place in.

With so many various outlets reporting about it being a return to the Fable series it's hard not to be excited for next-gen as an Xbox fan.
