Microsoft today updated the Xbox App on Windows 10 PCs, giving subscribers the ability to play games directly from the cloud or stream them from their console with Xbox Remote Play.

Jason Beaumont, partner director at Xbox Experiences, said that this long-awaited update will finally give folks without high-end gaming rigs a chance to play some of today's most popular games. The update also gives you a way to quickly jump into the action without lengthy downloads – or the need for tons of free space on your SSD.

"With these new updates, you now can play some of your favorite console titles on a wide range of PCs, even those that don’t have the specs required for certain PC titles," Beaumont said. "Streaming games through the Xbox app provides the quickest way to play without having to install games on your PC, giving you more time to dive right into Psychonauts 2, Hades, or whatever else you are playing."

Xbox App Game Streaming

In order to access games through the cloud on PC, just head over to the Xbox App on your Windows 10 device and click "Cloud Gaming." From there, you'll see a list of every game compatible with the technology.

As for Xbox Remote Play, this is the first time it's been enabled for Xbox Series X|S – and it comes with some big upgrades.

"We’ve also made additional upgrades from previous iterations of Remote Play, such as general stability updates, allowing for games to stream at 1080p up to 60fps, and adding the ability to play select Xbox 360 and Xbox Original games, which has been one of the most highly-requested features."

In other Microsoft news, the company announced Xbox Game Pass will see the arrival of 13 new games by October 1. SkateBird, Aragami 2, and Sable are just a few of the titles you can look forward to playing (or streaming) in the coming weeks.
