The white Xbox Elite Series 2 controller is real and is now available for pre-order. The Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 – Core (White), as Microsoft is calling it, is a stripped-down version of the Elite Series 2 that will sell for $50 less, but it's missing some key features. The name "Core" for the white Elite Series 2 seems to denote this version as just the most essential bit of Xbox's best hardware, that being the controller itself. While the original Elite Series 2 came with two sets of rear input paddles, a carrying case, charging dock, a cross-shaped D-pad, and a selection of thumbsticks, the Series 2 Core just has a USB-C cable and a thumbstick adjustment tool. Related: I Ate The Halo Infinite Gummy Worms So You Don't Have ToTo get all the additional extras and those rear paddles, you'll have to purchase the Complete Component Pack, which is sold separately for an additional $59.99. The Complete Component Pack includes:

  • 1 interchangeable D-pad (standard)
  • 4 interchangeable thumbsticks (2 classic, 1 tall, 1 dome)
  • 4 paddles (2 medium, 2 mini)
  • 1 carry case
  • 1 charge dock
  • 1 USB-C cable

The Elite Series 2 Core controller is being priced at $129.99, while the regular Elite Series 2 controller is $179.99. This means if you want anything in the Component Pack, it makes more sense to purchase the regular Elite Series 2. However, only the Core controller is available in white to match the Xbox Series S.

Pre-orders for both the Component Pack and the Elite Series 2 Core controller are available now, and as last month's leak suggested, both will arrive on September 21.

In other Xbox news, Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty held a wide-ranging interview over at PAX West where he discussed the possibility of seeing more Fable 4. However, it seems like Playground Games has forbid Booty from showing anything "until it's ready," which once again shows just how much autonomy Xbox gives its first-party studios.
