Xbox Game Pass just announced that every new Xbox exclusive game developed by Microsoft Studios will be coming to its service on the same day as the global release.
Yesterday Microsoft announced a huge change to its Xbox Game Pass program. Starting with Sea of Thieves, the upcoming pirate multiplayer game developed by Rare, all new Xbox exclusive titles will come Xbox Game Pass on the same day as they release in stores.
That’s a big change to the way Xbox Game Pass previously worked and adds incredible value to the program.
For the uninitiated, Xbox Game Pass is a monthly subscription service that allows Xbox One owners to download and play a growing library of titles. It released in June 2017, and since then expanded globally in September to include over 40 countries around the world.
From a starting library of 100 games, mostly older Xbox 360 titles, the Game Pass has expanded its library each month to now include 164 games.
And that list is now growing to include every new Xbox exclusive title released going forward. The first game to be released, Sea of Thieves, will be available on March 20th, but that’s not all. Future hot titles like State of Decay 2 and Crackdown 3 will also release on Game Pass on the same day as their general release.

Microsoft also made a point to mention this will include any future Halo, Gears of War, or Forza games too - just in case you were worried these franchises wouldn’t be coming back.
On top of that, Microsoft is also partnering with retailers--namely GameStop--to offer a Game Pass card that you can buy and refill your subscription with. Starting March 20 you can get a 6-month subscription card for $59.99.
Ten bucks a month for 164 games is an incredible value, even if it is mostly older titles in the Game Pass library, but that ten bucks including all new games just sweeten the pot.
Phil Spencer, Head of Gaming at Xbox, said in a statement, "With the addition of more great games, new blockbuster releases and a new subscription offer, we are giving fans more choice and value in how they discover and enjoy games – purchase games for their permanent library or play through Xbox Game Pass for one low price."
