The Xbox controller has come to represent the apex of design achievement over the years. In fact, if you compare the Xbox One and Series X controllers you will notice they are almost identical. The weight, the ergonomics, and the feel of this controller are so fleshed out that they have inspired other designs we see in the industry today.

If you never had the chance to see what one of these technology marvels can do, it's a great time to experiment with the latest controller that comes with the next-gen. Players used to the Xbox One will recognize some of its features, but also be surprised at what it can do.

10 The New Share Button Introduces New Features

This new button is found straight down from the staple Xbox button in the top middle part of the controller. Its functionality is much similar to the likes of what is found on the PlayStation and Nintendo Switch controllers, allowing players to share their own captures from their gameplay.

The Share button enables you to take instant screenshots with a single, quick press. A longer one will initiate gameplay recording, whose length is preset at 30 seconds, though this can be changed in the system settings.

9 Reduced Input Lag

This would not be a next-gen controller without some technical improvements to its performance. Thanks to the built-in Dynamic Latency Input, the time between button presses and actions in videogames should be faster than ever, minimizing input lag.

Previous-gen controllers are not notably laggy when it comes to button presses. However, some FPS players might notice this improvement more than others, since shooters are often the best place to experience the good old "I fired before they shot me" scenario.

8 It Works With Your Old Xbox

Those in need of an extra controller for their old console can save the trouble of having to get a new one. The Series X controller can be paired with the Xbox One, and the old controllers work on the new generation consoles as well. Couch co-op has never been easier.

To start playing with your friends in a matter of seconds, simply pair your controller to the console. To pair it, push the little button on the controller near the USB port, and then do the same with the pair button on the console. The process is exactly the same if you wish to pair your Xbox One controller to the Series X.

7 Prevents Your Fingers From Slipping

Though the design of the controller remains rather similar from its predecessor on the previous-gen, the ergonomics of the new one have received a few updates. Microsoft controller design experts focus on playtesting to improve their controllers, while keeping in mind the things that gamers look for in a new controller.

The subtle, but effective, changes in the new design focus on enhanced, anti-slipping technology. The triggers and grips on the controller feature dotted inlays that prevent your fingers from slipping. The D-pad has also been updated, and is now a concave circular button with multidirectional inputs that keep your thumb firmly in place.

6 Easily Connects To PC

Xbox controllers are renowned for their ability to easily connect to computers. With the next controller, you can use Bluetooth to connect wirelessly and play on compatible games.

To do this, make sure both your controller and computer are up to date — each should be as long as you have used both recently. Next, hold the pair button on the controller for three seconds and ensure that Bluetooth is turned on in your settings. Now you can add the controller as a device in your Bluetooth tab.

5 Use It With iOS And Android Devices

The latest controller, like its predecessor, can also connect to the latest iOS and Android devices via Bluetooth. This feature is especially useful for gamers looking to take advantage of Project xCloud to play on the go, which comes bundled with the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription.

The controller can also be charged with the newly integrated USB-C port while you play on your device. There is no risk of running out of battery, which is still the main power source in these next-gen controllers.

4 Turns Your TV On

In the system settings you can enable your console to turn your TV on. To do this, go to the General settings and then select the Power Mode & Startup tab. Here you can enable Instant-on or Energy-saving mode if you wish.

Select the TV & A/V Power Options, and then the HDMI-CEC option. Four more boxes will appear, selecting Console Turns On Other Devices will enable your Xbox to interact directly with your TV. To turn your console on you can use your controller, so there is no need to pick up your TV remote if you plan to hop on your Xbox.

3 Remap (Some) Controls

This is a returning feature from previous-gen controllers. Using the Xbox Accessories app, you can access the remap configuration for your Series X controller. The app is fairly self-explanatory, allowing you to highlight the buttons you want to swap and remap.

It's important to keep in mind that you cannot remap the triggers, Menu, View, and the Xbox buttons. The Share button can be remapped only with recording features, like taking video clips or screenshots (this function is useful if you plan to use your controller on a PC).

2 Instantly Switch Between Multiple Games With The Xbox Button

One of the coolest features the new Xbox comes with is the Quick Resume function. If you are someone who loves to play more than one game in a single session, you'll save tons of time by minimizing loading screens. Quick Resume allows you to suspend a game and temporarily store it in the system memory, until you are ready to pick it up again.

To do this, all you need to is press the Xbox button while you are playing, and you will instantly be able to switch to another game. There is a limit to how many games you can keep open at a time, though, so limiting it to about four to six games works best.

1 It Comes With Haptic Feedback

Sony's impressive DualSense, the latest arrival in the PlayStation family tree,  propelled Haptic Feedback in the spotlight of the new features coming with the next-gen. But did you know the Xbox Series X controller also comes with this? As a matter of fact, Haptic Feedback has been around for a while, even the Nintendo Switch's Joy-Cons and the Xbox One controllers have it.

Haptic Feedback is an improved type of rumble functionality, that works to further immerse players in a gaming experience. The haptics in the Xbox controller are found within the triggers, to provide rumbling sensations at the fingertips, and underneath the analog sticks, for more powerful vibrations.
