At the end of this week, Nintendo will be releasing Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition for the Switch. An enhanced port of the 2010 original, the re-releases comes with a graphical makeover, quality-of-life improvements, and some additional content in the way of an epilogue campaign. It's a very tasty prospect for a double-dip and practically a no brainer for anyone that never experienced the original.

Did all of the improvements and tweaks result in a better game, though? Sometimes, nostalgia can be a cruel mistress and cause us to gloss over any previously lacking aspects. At least in the case of Xenoblade Chronicles, it seems time has been exceptionally kind here.

The review embargo was lifted this morning and the general reception around the web has been overwhelmingly positive. Seeing as how I believe that the original is possibly the best game on Wii, I can't say I'm that surprised. Xenoblade Chronicles has yet to be topped by either of its follow-ups, so re-experiencing that original masterpiece should be a treat.
