Monolith Soft's epic RPG Xenoblade Chronicles is a fairly lengthy title with a ton of side content, but more is never a bad thing. The upcoming Definitive Edition release on Switch will not only have an epilogue campaign, but it is taking some cues from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and introducing a new time attack mode. Now you can race against the clock to defeat enemies and unlock new gear.

Nintendo and Monolith detailed the additions on Twitter today with a slew of screenshots. Accessible from certain spots in the world, players will be able to partake in both "Free" and "Limited" challenges. Free will allow you to customize your team composition while limited puts harsh restrictions on who you can use. Both will provide you with specific rewards for completion.

You'll be able to unlock more challenges as you make your way through the main campaign. Considering this is a 60+ hour saga, there could be a hell of a lot of time attack trials to partake in. That should add a sizeable chunk of extra content for those that can't get enough Xenoblade in their lives.

Nintendo teased some of the new costumes available from completing these challenges. Players will receive Noponstones for their efforts and those can be exchanged for either armor or gems. It could be a way to break the main campaign for those that have already played the game, though it's also possible to just be additional things to collect.

I normally don't care for time trials like this, but this does seem like a nice bonus for the main campaign. You can't fault the length of Xenoblade Chronicles, but there really wasn't anything left to do after completing the main story in the original. The combat system was interesting enough to support a basic arena, so I like seeing Monolith adding that here.

Maybe it isn't substantial in terms of new content, but this re-release also has that epilogue attached. That should give fans the continuation and closure they need to wrap up this legendary RPG. I know I'm certainly excited for May 29 to roll around.
