Yakuza 8 has been officially revealed at the Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio Summit for a 2024 release, and the reveal trailer shows that an older Kiryu will be featured in the game.

The reveal trailer for Yakuza 8 started by showing a silhouette of Ichiban Kasuga walking through the streets of Kamurucho before he's joined by another shadowy figure, which is revealed to be Kazuma Kiryu. The two walk together through the streets as Kiryu says "guess we don't have a choice" and Ichi says it's "hero time". The camera then shows a close-up of the two of them, which reveals that Kiryu looks very different and is seemingly now grey for the first time in the series.

The trailer ends before revealing too much more, but the Ryu Ga Gotoku stream confirmed that Yakuza 8 will be a dual protagonist game, switching between Ichi and Kiryu. The official upload of the trailer also confirms that Yakuza 8 will be another turn-based RPG, following on from how Like a Dragon reinvented the series back in 2019.

Interestingly, the trailer showed Ichi in his design from Like a Dragon, despite Famitsu's first footage of the game from a few months ago showing him with a ponytail instead of the perm that we've come to know him for. It's not clear if that's going to be changed at some point during the story, but the distance between a perm and a ponytail is pretty big, so it likely wasn't ready to show off just yet.

Although Yakuza 8 has been confirmed to follow the turn-based style that Like a Dragon did, Ryu Ga Gotoku studios also announced Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, a separate action game releasing in 2023 that stars Kiruo once more, showing what he got up to in between Yakuza 6 all the way up to Yakuza 8.
