Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair just turned one, and it's celebrating by offering Nintendo Switch owners a 60% discount. Playtonic has also been releasing pages of a free web comic to its Twitter page, which is now complete and available for free.

The free web comic follows the adventures of Yooka and Laylee as they investigate a mysterious forest fire near their home. Kev Bayliss, who has worked on both the original Yooka-Laylee and its sequel the Impossible Lair, produced the comic strip to commemorate the game's first birthday. The comic brings back Trowzer the Snake, Rodney the Blamphibian, and other iconic faces from the series.

As if that wasn't enough, the company is also sharing highlights from its speedrunning community, showing off some of the impressive skills of Yooka-Laylee streamers. Playtonic said the game has been "a hit with speedrunners since it launched 12 months ago."

Released on October 8, 2019 for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, Yooka-Laylee is a 2D platformer from "some of the key creative talent behind 'Donkey Kong Country.'" It has received positive reviews from most critics, although it hasn't had the commercial success of other platformers like Mario, Spyro, or Crash Bandicoot. Regardless, it's an incrediblely fun game and – if you have a Switch – you can pick up the adorable title for just $11.99.

The game includes 40 levels played across 20 chapters. Each of these chapters can be played in its base state or alternate state – although both states occur in the same location, they're actually completely unique levels. It's a cool design, and one that encourages replayability – and lends itself well to speedrunning. There's also a massive overworld in which you'll control Yooka and Laylee from a top-down view, scouring the surroundings for new chapters and hidden secrets.

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is available for $29.99 on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. Right now the game is on sale for just $11.99 on Nintendo Switch. The discount ends on October 11, so you'll need to move quick if you want to take advantage of the savings.
