Yoshi's Crafted World was one of the few big Nintendo titles that were due to be released before the summer and many pundits wrote it off as a filler product until games like Animal Crossing and Pokémon Sword & Shield arrive.

It seems that people were underestimating Mario's trusty steed, as Yoshi's Crafted World debuted at number one on the UK sales charts, beating out Tom Clancy's The Division 2 by a very thin margin.

According to Gamesindustry.bizYoshi's Crafted World debuted at number one on the UK sales chart, with The Division 2 taking second place. Yoshi's Crafted World just barely took the top spot, however, as the game only sold sixty-three more copies than The Division 2 did. The sales gap between the two games is one of the closest in history, with Yoshi's Crafted World only barely scraping the lead over The Division 2.

The Division 2 was kept away from the top spot last week by Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, which has now dropped to third place. If it weren't for the release of Yoshi's Crafted World, then The Division 2 would have stolen the number one spot from Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

Yoshi's Crafted World is the first game in the Yoshi series to debut at the top spot in the UK, which might say more about how fans are craving more first-party games for the Switch than it does about the quality of Yoshi's Crafted World, especially considering the mixed review scores for the game.

The more impressive feat for the Nintendo Switch is that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is in the charts, considering the game is almost two years old and is an updated port of a Wii U game. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is currently the best-selling game on the Nintendo Switch, beating out the likes of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, so no one should ever doubt the staying power of the Mario Kart series.

Yoshi's Crafted World is available now for the Nintendo Switch. Tom Clancy's The Division 2 is available now for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
