The Egyptian God cards — Obelisk the Tormentor, Slifer the Sky Dragon, and The Winged Dragon of Ra — are what come to mind when you ask many fans of the classic Yu-Gi-Oh! anime to name the TCG’s ultimate boss Monsters. Awesome designs and devastating effects make these cards hard to forget. The God cards are also unique because they’re the only Monsters with the Divine attribute and Divine-Beast type.

Although the Egyptian Gods can quickly win you the duel once they’re on the field, getting them there can be a serious challenge. Fortunately for duelists looking to create an Egyptian God deck, support cards have made it easier to both get a God card on the field and power it up once it’s there. With the right Spells, Traps, and Monster effects on your side, you can create an Egyptian God combo that truly lives up to the hype.

8 Power Up Your God Cards: Divine Evolution

Divine Evolution card in Yu-Gi-Oh!

Divine Evolution is a Spell card that can only be used on Divine-Beast type Monsters or certain “Wicked” Monsters. Since the only Divine-Beasts in Yu-Gi-Oh! are the Egyptian Gods, they are some of the few Monsters in the TCG that can make use of this Spell’s effect.

Divine Evolution is a great pick for decks that are built around summoning a God card to end the duel as swiftly as possible. By raising your Monster’s attack and making it easy to clear the field, this Spell will help you secure victory.

7 Use Your Opponent's Monsters Against Them: Soul Crossing

Soul Crossing card in Yu-Gi-Oh!

Turning the greatest weakness of the Egyptian God cards into a game-winning effect, Soul Crossing allows you to Tribute Summon a Divine-Beast Monster during any Main Phase using Monsters from either your or your opponent’s side of the field. In other words, you can sacrifice your opponent’s Monsters to summon a God card from your hand.

The downside of Soul Crossing is that if you use any of your opponent’s Monsters to tribute summon, then you can only activate one effect per turn (not including Divine-Beast Monster effects) until the end of the next turn. For this reason, this Quick-Play Spell is best used during your opponent’s turn, since you’ll be restricted to one effect activation on your turn and not your opponent’s — when you’ll want to have as many options as possible to keep your God card on the field.

6 Offense And Defense In One Card: Mound Of The Bound Creator

Mound of the Bound Creator card in Yu-Gi-Oh!

A valuable Field Spell for any deck that uses Level 10 or higher Monsters, Mound of the Bound Creator prevents Level 10 or higher Monsters from being targeted or destroyed by card effects. This effect is some of the best protection available for Egyptian Gods — all of which are Level 10. Additionally, if your Level 10 or higher Monster destroys a Monster by battle while this card is on the field, your opponent takes 1,000 damage.

But what makes Mound of the Bound Creator particularly useful for supporting Egyptian God cards is what happens when it is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard — you’re able to add any one Divine attribute Monster from your deck to your hand. Basically, destroying this Spell card gets you one step closer to bringing out Obelisk, Slifer, or The Winged Dragon of Ra.

5 Bring Out God Cards Faster: Double Summon

Double Summon card in Yu-Gi-Oh!

A deceptively simple Spell, Double Summon allows you to Normal Summon or Set Monsters twice in a turn instead of just once. Since getting three Monsters on the field is a key part of summoning an Egyptian God card, this Spell makes a great support card for many Divine decks.

Double Summon can easily be combined with Monster cards that Special Summon other Monsters when summoned, such as Ra’s Disciple. With the right cards in your hand, you can use one Normal Summon to get three Monsters on the field, and the second to Tribute Summon a God card — all in a single turn.

4 Protect Your Tribute Summons: March of the Monarchs

March of the Monarchs card in Yu-Gi-Oh!

The Continuous Spell card March of the Monarchs prevents your Tribute Summoned Monsters from being destroyed or targeted by card effects. This Spell is a good option for defending Egyptian God cards, since many strategies for summoning them rely on tributing other Monsters.

Since March of the Monarchs protects any Monster that you Tribute Summon, it’s especially effective if you're playing a deck that Tribute Summons Monsters other than God cards. On the other hand, the Continuous Spell prevents you from Special Summoning Monsters from the Extra Deck, so it’s not the best option for Egyptian God decks that rely on XYZ or Link Monster effects.

3 Use God Cards As A Shield: Ultimate Divine-Beast

Ultimate Divine-Beast card in Yu-Gi-Oh!

Obelisk and Slifer both destroy themselves at the end of the turn if they’re Special Summoned, and this Continuous Trap card allows you to use that effect to defend your Monsters and life points. By discarding one Spell or Trap card from your hand when an opponent’s Monster declares an attack, Ultimate Divine-Beast allows you to Special Summon a Divine-Beast Monster from your Graveyard in defense position, and make it the target of the attack.

In addition to protecting you from attacks, Ultimate Divine-Beast helps you remove your opponent’s trickiest cards from the field. If you control a Divine-Beast during the End Phase, all of your opponent’s face-up cards that activated an effect that turn are destroyed.

2 Tribute Summon And Defend Your Life Points: Reactor Slime

Reactor Slime card in Yu-Gi-Oh!

If you can keep Reactor Slime on the field for two of your turns, you can use it to summon two Slime Tokens, which can be used as tributes for any Divine-Beast Monster. One way to defend Reactor Slime is with Trap effects like Negate Attack or Threatening Roar that prevent your opponent from conducting their Battle Phase.

Reactor Slime also helps you survive an opponent’s Battle Phase thanks to its second effect. During the Battle Phase, you can tribute Reactor Slime to set one Metal Reflect Slime (a Trap card that can be summoned to the field as a 3,000-defense Effect Monster) directly from your hand, deck, or Graveyard — it can be activated during that turn.

1 The Ultimate Tribute Target: Ra's Disciple

Ra's Disciple card in Yu-Gi-Oh!

It’s fair to say that Ra’s Disciple is the single best support card to add to an Egyptian God deck. With one of these cards, the right Spell, and any Egyptian God in hand, you can summon your boss Monster in a single turn. When summoned to the field, Ra’s Disciple allows you to Special Summon up to two additional Ra’s Disciple cards from your hand or deck.

Ra’s Disciple is generally best used when you can summon a God card immediately after. For example, you can use Double Summon to Normal Summon Ra’s Disciple and Tribute Summon Obelisk, Slifer, or The Winged Dragon of Ra on the same turn. Or you can activate the Quick-Play Spell Celestial Transformation to Special Summon Ra’s Disciple from your hand for a similar combination.
