Zac Efron is one of the biggest names in Hollywood; he has the charisma of The Rock, the eyes of an ocean, and the abs of a deity. His career has been a roller-coaster of a ride, starting off as a Disney celebrity on the wildly popular movie High School Musical where he captured the hearts of young audiences as Troy Bolton.

High School Musical might've been hated on by most young guys, including the whole male population of my middle school, but I always found some sort of guilty pleasure in the series. The out of nowhere dancing and singing, and especially the relationship drama. To this day I still wholeheartedly believe Troy should’ve ended up with Ashley Tisdale’s character Sharpay Evans. That's right, bring on the hate, Vanessa Hudgens fans.

But as we flash forward to 2018, we have an entirely new Zac Efron, not only in his personality but in his looks and stardom. Efron shattered his appearance of scrawny but good looking blue-eyed kid and is now an insanely jacked beast-man who has a six-pack that could deflect bullets. Zac grew up and left his childhood stardom behind himself almost turning himself into an entirely different person.

Honestly, I like the change. Zac’s characters in Neighbors, Baywatch, and his upcoming film where he looks to star as Ted Bundy have left audiences asking for more of this mature, grown-up Efron. But growing up goes hand in hand with leaving old friends in the past, and some of you might shed a tear when you find out who Zac’s left behind. Hopefully, a smile will come to your face when you find out who’s in his clique now.

16 BFF: Corbin Bleu

via: pinterest.co.uk

That’s right, I hope the nostalgia is kicking in because we’ve basically reached Defcon 9 for those nostalgic for post-High School Musical relationships. Efron’s best buddy on the courts in High School Musical also happens to be one of his best buddies in his personal life.

Bleu hasn’t had the same sort of success that Efron has had over the years, but it’s not his fault—Efron’s got a wicked six pack to attribute his success to.

But this never stopped the two from being buddies, as they’ve been seen hanging out with each other over photos on Instagram. And Efron came to support his pal in his Broadway show Holiday Inn and even gave a standing ovation for his friend during the middle of the play. Bleu laughed about it later saying that Efron was the only individual in the whole crowd who decided to stand and cheer during one of the more exciting parts in the play.

I bet we all wish we had an Efron in our lives, someone who would never let you down and unexpectedly show up to support you through your best moments in life. *Sigh* if only Efron responded to all my hangout requests that I keep spamming him on Twitter. One day.

15 No More: Amanda Bynes

via: zimbio.com

“Amanda, Amanda, Manda, Manda, Manda Show!”Any 90s kids will light up once they hear those opening lines, or the even more iconic line “Bring out the dancing lobsters!” Amanda Bynes was the queen of kids television back in the 90s and early 2000s. She was iCarly, Victorious, K.C. Undercover, and even SNL all perfectly combined into this 13-year-old girl. She was a rockstar, then she flew off.

Thankfully, Amanda seems to have once again leveled off from the sudden surge of strangeness we were exposed to, but her awkwardness still seemed to rub Efron the wrong way.

The two worked together on Hairspray, but during Byne’s peak issues, she tweeted out that Zac Efron "has an ugly face." Which floored many, as Efron seemingly did nothing to provoke Bynes to tweet out the insult. But Efron decided to display his maturity by not responding to Bynes despite the two once being friends.

Bynes went on a Twitter spree, calling Miley Cyrus and even Rihanna unattractive. Bynes went from having a promising career in Hollywood to immediately tanking all of it in a series of questionable tweets. Thankfully, it seems Bynes is finally regaining her sanity, though we still think it should be a ten commandment to never call Zac Efron ugly again. “Thou shall not call Efron ugly!”

14 BFF: The Rock

via: thenerdinitiative.com

Efron has met a lot of his current friends through movies he’s worked on, but we’re going to assume that none of his friends are as large and charismatic as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Efron was first introduced to The Rock before joining the cast of Baywatch, but he still had a lot to learn about working with the legend. The two came together in the summer blockbuster to give us one of the best on-screen rivalries of this decade.

The Rock pushed Efron to his limit on and off camera, the two had to get into wicked shape and despite all of the physical pressures put on by the film, Efron gushed about how much of a joy it is to work with the WWE superstar.

But the praise was a two-way street, as The Rock couldn’t stop praising Efron as well after the two worked together. Johnson stating that Efron had “28 abs” and that he was a major contender for replacing him for PEOPLE’s most attractive man alive award.

Johnson went as far as to say that Efron is definitely in the top five for most attractive alive. Top all of this off with an onscreen kiss in Baywatch and we have a fairy-tale of a bromance. I think it’s obvious that we need to get these two a room.

13 No More: Ashley Tisdale

via: 1dating.me

Now this one is a tear-jerker for me, as I was way more into the Sharpay-Troy relationship growing up, despite knowing it'd probably never happen (though we were close in HSM 2). But I continued to be optimistic, I mean who didn’t love the over-the-top performance that was Sharpay and Troy’s “You are the music in me,” Sharpay might’ve been hated, but she was sassy, bombacious and didn’t take flak from anyone. My kind of girl.

And off screen, Efron was caught giving Ashley Tisdale a birthday smooch that seemed to cement the “relationship” they had.

I won’t lie, it may be a little bit of a stretch to say they don’t contact each other at all anymore, but their friendship seems a whole lot more awkward especially with Tisdale tweeting out photos of a fake High School Musical reunion. The photo featured Hudgens, Tisdale, and Efron all on the Golden Globe red carpet when in actuality only Efron was there. Don’t play with our emotions, Tisdale! This is probably why Efron stopped talking to you as much!

It’s unclear if the two have completely lost contact but it seems like there's way more distance between them now then when they were both Disney superstars. It's sad to see Efron slowly abandon Tisdale, but you gotta make more friend time for people like The Rock.

12 BFF: Hugh Jackman

via: deccanchronicle.com

If you told me growing up that one day Troy from High School Musical and Wolverine would one day be best buds, I’d seriously think you were more lunatic then Efron’s Ted Bundy character. But here we are in 2018. Both working together on the hit movie, The Greatest Showman, these two had some impressive chemistry that even continued off-screen for both actors (well, that got spicier then I intended it to sound).

Efron made his return to singing and dancing in a movie, even if it wasn’t in the hallways of East High School or the streets of Baltimore in Hairspray.

This alone was enough to get Efron fans excited, but his friendship with Hugh Jackman was the cherry on top for everyone. Cast and crew for the show commented on the playful banter the two always had with each other and their chemistry seemed undeniable to everyone.

Apparently, the two clicked very well when shooting The Greatest Showman and that’s a huge testament to Efron as Jackman boasts an accomplished resume for Broadway and musical movies."I think Zac Efron is literally one of the most professional, hard-working, dedicated actors out there and he absolutely kills in this part," Jackman told E! News.

11 No More: Paula Abdul

via: puretrend.com

Now while Paula Abdul and Zac Efron were never besties, they did have a friendship for a little while. Back in the glory days of American Idol when Simon used to rip contestants a new one and Randy offered his mellow vibes, there was a third classic judge who also happened to be Efron’s favorite, Paula Abdul.

Back in 2008, Efron used to talk about the glory days of Idol and how it was one of his favorite shows to watch. Efron talked about not being envious of the contestants as being thrown into the limelight that quick can be very emotionally frustrating.

One week you’re America’s star, and the next you’re packing up your bags and going home. It was a rough show, even for those talented enough to bless our ears with their voices. Efron loved it and didn’t hide his love for his favorite judge Paula Abdul.

The two attended the Teen Choice Awards together and shared a few moments on the red carpet plenty during the late 2000s. But that’s really where the story ends for Efron and Abdul, as no news has popped up about the two in almost ten years. Looks like Efron just wanted this relationship to be pure admiration and nothing else. Well, at least Abdul snagged a kiss from Efron before being shunned out.

10 BFF: Seth Rogen

via: brantfordexpositor.ca

Now, unlike some of the entries on this list, this one didn’t start off as love at first sight. Seth Rogen “hated” Zac Efron. It’s hard to blame Seth, as Zac was just some fresh, new pretty boy that suddenly pulled up on the scene, stealing all the limelight with him. Seth was a lot like middle school me; we both wouldn’t admit that we hated Zac because he was stealing all the girls, but it more or less boiled down to it.

Now, apparently during their first meeting, Seth wasn’t in the mood to fake his hate of Efron, outright telling him that he hated him.

I honestly love this story. Just imagine meeting someone for the first time and during your introductions they just mention, “Oh, by the way, I hate you.” It’s comedy gold, and it didn’t take long for Rogen to warm up to the charismatic Efron as the two became friends pretty much right afterward. It’s a bit strange to have someone hate you then kind of like you the next moment, but I guess it couldn’t happen to anyone else but Efron.

The two would go onto do the first Neighbors only a year later and went on to make a few more comedy hits, including Disaster Artist and Neighbors 2.

9 No More: Michelle Rodriguez

via: dlisted.com

It’s not that Zac seems to have a lot of problems with ladies, but it really does seem like he’s had more than a few breakups with women. I mean, I guess when you have tons of girls throwing themselves at you, then you're going to have to break some hearts along the way. But I’d pray for the man that breaks Michelle Rodriguez’s heart because she’s more than likely going to break your face in return. Thankfully, Efron wasn’t that man.

Michelle Rodriguez is famous for throwing flings with different guys from time to time, and it seems Efron was one of those guys.

Who knew that a woman out there had the guts to break it off with Mr. “28 abs” himself. But I guess if any woman were to do it, it’d be an empowered machine like Michelle Rodriguez. In an interview with Milla Jovovich for Interview magazine, Rodriguez opened up to why she can’t last “6 months” with someone.

"I have absolutely nothing consistent in my life," Rodriguez said. "I'm a lone wolf. I run by myself on most things. I've got lots of really great friends, but the thought of being in a long-lasting relationship? Psh, I couldn't last more than six months with somebody, let alone have a father figure around for a kid." Well, might as well cross relationship with Michelle Rodriguez off the bucket list because that’s not looking too good.

8 BFF: Dave Franco

via: perezhilton.com

So while many were speculating to see if Zac Efron and Alexandra Daddario were dating, for a while many were wondering the same thing about Efron and Dave Franco. The two had worked on a few movies like the Neighbors series, but nobody knew their bromance went that far. Well, at least a few did when a hoaxed article came out stating that the two were, in fact, dating.

It’s pretty alarming to think that people somehow fell for this, but I guess that’s just how hard their bromance went. In an interview, Franco and Efron were asked if they’d ever turn down a girl to hang out with one of the boys, and both didn’t even hesitate to say no way. Even when asked if that girl was Rihanna, the guys still stood their ground reestablishing the fact that they’d never leave a bro.

Personally, I do like hanging out with my boys, but over Rihanna... hmmm, I’m going to have to get back to you on that one.

These guys are classic friends. They won’t let a girl get in the way of their friendship, and their relationship in Neighbors seems like an extension of their real-life friendship. Sorry ladies, but looks like you aren’t ever going to come between Efron and Franco.

7 No More: Leonardo DiCaprio

via: www.pinterest.com

Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the more low-key celebrities on this list, avoiding the paparazzi as much as humanly possible and popping up every few years to make a hit-blockbuster movie. DiCaprio is a legend and honestly deserves to have a room full of Oscars for the number of jaw-dropping performances he’s given throughout the years. So it comes as no surprise that Leo has a ton of admirers, one of them actually being Zac Efron.

And for a while, the two were actually kind of close, even going to a Lakers game together back in Zac’s High School Musical days.

But unfortunately for Efron, he made a mistake that might’ve made DiCaprio distance himself from the young actor. In an interview, Efron joked that one of the most important lessons DiCaprio taught him was that there’s only one way he can mess up his career, and it’s through substances.

Efron intended it the lesson to come off sarcastic, but instead, he came off a bit slanderous. When Efron realized his mistake he desperately called Leo to apologize. Leo might’ve accepted the apology, but has yet to work with Efron on a film and is never seen with the star. Maybe after Efron showcases his acting chops in a serious role like his upcoming Ted Bundy movie, then DiCaprio might try to finally work with the young star.

6 BFF: Zendaya

via: tumblr.com

Here’s another friendship that Efron developed from The Greatest Showman, and while it isn’t as spicy as our bromance Efron had with Hugh Jackman, it’s still an awesome friendship. Zendaya and Efron share a very similar history, both at one point being products of the Disney Channel and both being successful in erasing their image of being child actors.

Zendaya, famous for starring in the shows Shake It Up and K.C. Undercover, erased her history fairly easily when she was cast in roles like “MJ” in the new Spider-Man and now as Anne Wheeler in The Greatest Showman.

The two met each other for the first time on the set of the movie, and it was evident that there was chemistry on day one. The two joked throughout all the interviews and were even caught flirting back and forth on a few occasions. But don’t get your hopes up for a Zac Efron-Zendaya relationship, as he already has a significant other who we’ll mention later in this list.

But their chemistry was still undeniable, and Efron acknowledged that when commenting on their kiss. "This might be my favorite kiss ever," Efron stated. "The tension between our characters was so strong that literally just a glance between them is electric. When they finally have the courage in that moment to finally connect and get that kiss, it's .... really happening," he finished. So maybe all you hopefuls for an Efron-Zendaya relationship do have a case, after all.

5 No More: Danny DeVito

via: popsugar.com

This is perhaps my favorite star on this list, for his portrayal as Frank Reynolds in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, his role as the dad from Matilda, and as Phil in Hercules. DeVito is an awesome actor and a comedy legend, but I hated him in The Lorax. Well, not really hated him, but the movie as a whole as it differed so much from the original message of the book.

Instead of focusing on the environment, the movie was more focused on flashy songs, eye-popping animation, and selling gas-fueled cars during promotional advertisements. But I can’t put much blame, if any, on the two leading stars, Danny DeVito as The Lorax and Zac Efron as Ted.

The two did a good job in their roles, but it seemed like after the movie that no friendship was blooming for Efron and DeVito. The two went to work, voiced their characters, and seemingly never spoke to each other after the movie was over.

Which I’m honestly pretty mad about, as I can really see DeVito and Efron having some really hilarious banter if Efron was on a show like It’s Always Sunny. But I guess they’ll never reunite unless some movie calls them both together. Hopefully, someone realizes the missed opportunity at not having these two in the same movie, live action this time, and with no more guitar solos in the middle of a Dr. Seuss book, please!

4 BFF: Adam Devine

via: zimbio.com

Bromances, bromances, bromances; who would’ve known that Zac Efron was such a bro to all of his friends? It seems that once the High School Musical star graduated from Disney’s clutches, he went on to Hollywood to literally befriend as many people as possible. One of those people being Workaholics star Adam Devine.

Devine and Efron are almost as cute as Franco and Efron. We say almost, only because there was never a scandal revealing that the two were dating.

But these two have just a strong bromance, if not stronger at times. The two always have the quirkiest pictures together, with both always trying to fight for the camera or even a photo with Devine riding Efron’s back.

That’s the kind of friendship that is nurtured over time, slowly maturing, until bam! Your buddy is riding your back. And the two are honestly funnier in their interviews than their actual movies, like when Devine described that Efron’s fan base is comprised of girls 12-65 who all want to date them, vs his own which are basically just hipster college kids. The two always seemed relaxed around each other and honestly give off a vibe that they grew up together. Now that’s a good friendship right there.

3 No More: Robert Pattinson

via: thecut.com

Even I didn’t know that Zac Efron hung out with the infamous pale vampire lord from the Twilight movies, Robert Pattinson. Pattinson and Efron just don’t seem like the buddy-buddy type. Efron is an outgoing beacon of sunshine for us all to enjoy. And Robert Pattinson is, well, Robert Pattinson, I swear the man would get sunburnt from a lamp that was too bright.

But the two did have a friendship for a short time, showing that even Pattinson could be one of Efron’s “bros.”

The two spent a couple of birthdays together and were even spotted bowling together. It truly seemed like they had a pretty cool friendship, but for some reason, it didn’t seem to last very long, as public appearances of the two died down and they weren’t spotted hanging out as much as they used to.

The two must’ve just went their separate ways, as they just didn’t seem like the hot new bromance that everyone was freaking on about. We feel for Pattinson but are still jealous of his time as Zac’s bestie, as who wouldn’t want the opportunity to get a chance to bowl with Zac? And apparently, Pattinson is no slouch at bowling, so we definitely tip our hats to Pattinson for once getting the opportunity to take on Efron.

2 BFF: Alexandra Daddario

via: justjared.com

Zac’s a chick-magnet, there’s no denying it, but even he had to be impressed with himself for landing an “on and off” again relationship with Alexandra Daddario. Legend has it that Daddario’s eyes are so blue that you’ll go blind if you make direct eye contact with her. Daddario herself joked that if she and Zac had kids, then they’d have some really blue eyes.

Daddario and Efron met up on Baywatch and it was easy to see the sparks flying almost immediately.

The chemistry was so good that fans were clamoring to actually see if the two would go on to date after the cameras stopped rolling. And unfortunately for the Hudgens fans, there does seem to be something between the two. The way they intensely look into each other's light-blue eyes and just how comfortable they seem to always have around each other seemed to build a strong case that the two had something going on.

It just seemed too good to not be true, but Efron fans celebrated when they found out the two were actually involved in an “on and off” relationship, described by Daddario. Who knows how deep this “relationship” actually goes or even if it’ll last. But it’s fun to know that Daddario has finally met someone who can face her bewitching blue-eyed stare.

1 No More: Vanessa Hudgens

via: que.es

Ouch! This one’s seriously gotta hurt for those High School Musical fans out there. I know most of you probably came to this list with the thought, “Does he still talk to Vanessa?” “When are they getting back together!?” Sorry, people, this relationship looks buried.

A long time ago, there wasn’t a place you could go where you wouldn’t hear everyone’s favorite relationship being rattled off about. Of course, I’m talking about Troy Bolton and Gabriella Montez. The two star-crossed lovers from High School Musical had a ton of chemistry and that’s why their fans went especially gaga when they started dating in real-life.

Though fan hearts would be shattered forever when the two called it quits seven years ago, after dating for four years. And while it seemed like they could at least be friends, it seemed like Vanessa Hudgens put those dreams to rest. In an interview with Us Weekly, Hudgens stated: “I completely lost contact with him."

Talk about adding salt to the wounds. Even one of Disney’s strongest power couples couldn’t last forever. But with Efron’s career accelerating at such a crazy rate, it looked like he just couldn’t bring some of his High School Musical friends for the ride. We just wish Vanessa didn’t have to be one of the ones left behind.
