A recent interview with Zack Fair's voice actor to coincide with the release of Crisis Core Reunion has confirmed that the character will play an "active role" in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake did a lot to differentiate itself from the original game and make it clear that it was more of a reimagining than a shot-for-shot remake, with the biggest change being that Zack Fair seemingly survived his encounter with Shinra. It's left ambiguous enough that it's not totally clear if Zack is alive in the same universe as Cloud and Aerith, but it seems that we'll find that out in Rebirth as he's confirmed to have an "active role".

As reported by Twitter user aitaikimochi, Zack Fair's Japanese voice actor, Kenichi Suzumura, recently took part in an interview with Famitsu to talk about the release of Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core Reunion. During the interview, Suzumura is asked about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, as he'll be returning to play Zack for that game.

Although Suzumura doesn't give too much away, he does seemingly confirm that Zack will play quite a big role in the sequel compared to his brief appearances in Remake and Intergrade. During the interview, he said, "The amount of things I can actually talk about is very limited, but it seems Zack also has an active role in the game (laughs)".

From these comments, it also seems that recording for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is likely well underway. This doesn't come as too much of a surprise considering Rebirth was announced with a late 2023 release date in mind, but it's nice to get a little development update when we haven't heard anything about the game in some time.

It should also be noted that the reveal trailer for Rebirth included some new dialogue lines that weren't heard in Remake which, when combined with Suzumura's comments, make it clear that voice acting has been in the works for at least a little while.
